DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has called on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to stop procrastinating on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on immigrants in Sabah, and take immediate action on its recommendations.

The report is set to be released later today at Kota Kinabalu after being delayed for over half a year.

Najib had announced on Nov 17 that Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan would be in charge of the report implementation committee.

“I call on Najib to announce which federal minister would be tasked to work with Pairin,” he said in a statement today.

Lim added that even though Pairin ( right ) would be in charge of the implementation committee, the real power would lie with Putrajaya to make changes

The Gelang Patah MP also questioned the validity of the committee and wondered how long it would take to compile and implement the recommendations of the report.

“It cannot even meet and start work today as it has not been fully constituted. Or is it a one-man committee?

“How long will the Pairin review committee take - one month, three months, six months or one year to complete its work of compiling recommendations on implementation of the report?”

Lim said that the issue which has already been going on for the past 40 years, will escalate further if there is no swift action taken.

He said if no real solution is found, by 2020, the problem would have snowballed to some three million illegal immigrants in Sabah, reducing native Sabahans to a minority in their own land.

Lim demanded that Najib give an immediate assurance that there will be no more procrastination on this 40-year problem.

He also asked the premier to explain how the federal government proposed to deal with RCI recommendations it found unacceptable or inappropriate.

The RCI was set up in 2012 and had 211 witnesses in hearings which extended until late 2013.

The witnesses included the former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The commission's five-man panel was headed by former chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Steve Shim.
