Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) has slammed MCA leader Ong Chong Swen as “shallow, unintelligent and confrontational”, following her call for the group to be charged for sedition.

 

Isma women’s chief Norsaleha Mohd Salleh ( right ) said if the MCA women’s wing vice chairperson is serious about maintaining inter-ethnic harmony, they should focus instead on DAP, MCA and civil society activists such as Ambiga Sreenevasan.

“If there is anyone creating hatred and distrust in the society, then it is the chauvinist DAP, MCA and left-wing NGOs.

 

“You should demand the government and the (attorney-general) to immediately charge them under the Sedition Act if you are really serious and sincere to uphold peace in the country”, Norsaleha said on the Isma portal yesterday.

On Tuesday, The Rakyat Post reported Ong as saying it was unnecessary for Isma to run a public education campaign on what the NGO said are the “four pillars” of the constitution.

The news portal quoted Ong to have said that the move only creates hatred and distrust, as all Malaysians are already aware of these four pillars and would not question them.

 

“Is Isma too small an organisation that it must resort to such controversial action to make itself famous?

 

“Such irresponsible ventures will only destroy the peace and harmony that we have enjoyed thus far,” Ong was reported to have said.

Booklet on 'constitutional pillars'

Isma is reported to be distributing booklets in mosques nationwide about the “social contract” and the four pillars of the constitution.

The four pillars, according to Isma, are as follows: Islam as the religion of the federation; the special position of Malays; the sovereignty of Malay rulers; and the national language.

Norsaleha, on the Isma website, claimed that the attack on the “four pillars” have in fact been ongoing for years with increasing intensity.

 

She claimed, among others, that DAP, on its website, states it wants to remove the special position of bumiputeras.

The Isma leader also accused Ambiga of lobbying Pakatan Rakyat to amend laws relating to Islam.

Another “attack” listed by Isma is by the human rights coalition Comango, which it said is pressing for “unconstitutional demands” such as legalising apostasy and allowing the word 'Allah' to be used in Malay-language Bibles.

 

“Has she (Ong) been sleeping all these while, or does she really think Malaysians are stupid? Who is she trying to fool?” she added.
