Eminent Malays put Ibrahim Ali on back foot

YOURSAY ‘If Ibrahim Ali is a moderate Malay, then I am president of USA.’

I'm moderate, too, declares Ibrahim Ali

David Dass: The 25 eminent Malays have clearly got Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali on the defensive. He is clearly ‘language challenged’ if he regards himself as a 'moderate'.

Malaysia is at a crossroad. All Malaysians have to recognise and acknowledge the kind of country that we have. We have a Federal Constitution.

That constitution sets out the basic framework or structure of our democracy, it defines the relationship between the three branches of government, it makes the judiciary independent, it sets out the relationship between the rulers and the states, it sets out the fundamental liberties and rights of individuals, which include freedom of worship, freedom of expression, freedom of association and freedom of movement.

The constitution also declares all citizens equal before the law and to enjoy the equal protection of the law, it sets out the position of the rulers, of Islam as the religion of the federation, of Malay as the national language and special rights of Malays and the indigenous people of Sabah and Sarawak under Article 153.

No change should be made of our fundamental structure. All must accept that the constitution sets our best chance of survival as a diverse society. That does not prevent people of all faiths practising their respective faiths in accordance with their own beliefs.

No attempt should be made to regulate how others worship and pray. Moderation makes it clear that all must respect one another. Let our conduct be the judge of whether we are good people or not, and let God decide whether we are worthy of going to heaven or not.

Commentable: As soon as Ibrahim Ali saw the stand moderate ‘eminent Malays’ made their in public, his deepest fear materialised.

His fear is that more and more Malays comprising the silent majority will step forward to be counted. So he wasted no time in declaring himself as a "moderate" too.

But we know that this man is a deceitful chameleon who does not hesitate to change his colour for the sake of blending himself to the changing social landscape.

The only thing is, he has inevitably exposed himself and his organisation to be lousy fakes one way or the other, i.e. you cannot play the role as an extremist and claim to be a moderate at the same time.

RCZ: Ibrahim Ali is indeed intellectually challenged, or in other words, stupid.

Former ambassador Noor Farida Ariffin had literally called Perkasa “ idiots ” and then this man opened his mouth and proved it.

He should keep opening his mouth and keep being stupid and maybe more moderate Malaysians will wake up to tell him to shut up.

Pemerhati: If Ibrahim Ali of Perkasa is a moderate then the National Party of former apartheid South Africa and the Nazi Party of Hitler’s Germany were moderate organisations led by moderate leaders.

Abasir: Since he is a moderate, Ibrahim should get the Spineless One to get him membership in the Global Movement of Moderates. The Spineless One is, after all, the friend and benefactor of both.

Ferdtan: If Ibrahim Ali is a moderate Malay, then I am president of USA.

Clearly, the best news before the end of this year was the emergence of the 25 eminent Malays who surprisingly came out in public to voice out against extremism in all forms.

This is rather gratifying, especially that they are from groups that are non-partisan. We, fellow Malaysians, are solidly behind them. We need patriots who love the country. We hope more eminent Malays (please, no politicians) give support to these brave Malaysians.

It obviously had traction and Ibrahim Ali is now feeling the heat and is now defending himself.

As I had said before, we need Muslim Malays, the majority ethnic group, to be at the forefront in defending the cause of moderation on controversial racial and religious matters.

If it were to involve the non-Muslims, non-Malay Malaysians, the extremists would scream their usual cliche: “We are defending our race, religion and royalty.”

Keep on harping on the issue of Ibrahim Ali’s follies so as to pressure the police and embarrass them if they  keep on selectively charging other people under the Sedition Act.

This is especially so if they are from the opposition and their offences, if they are true, are less serious than the one allegedly committed by Ibrahim Ali.

Equatorial Man: Ibrahim Ali is only trying to put into practice a commonly used tactic of his (what's the name) master.

The tactic is called "blowing smoke into the eyes of the people when under attack". Good try. It doesn't work anymore. We have seen it too often.

Shibboleth: If Ibrahim Ali is a moderate, then Saddam Hussein is a misunderstood soul.

Keturunan Malaysia: My youngest grandson who was wearing a Superman T-Shirt said to me, "Look Grandpa, I am Superman!"

I dared not say “No, you are not” for he will definitely cry. So I said, "Yes dear, you are...". And he smiled happily and scooted off.
