FLOODS Four hospitals in Kelantan and two more in Pahang which were affected by the floods, are still functioning, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

Noor Hisham said floods that hit Johor, Terengganu, Pahang, Kelantan, Perak and Selangor had affected 102 health facilities, 38 of which were still operating.

He said 5 kilo Volt Ampere (kVA) capacity generators were sent to locations, including the Kuala Krai Hospital, Tanah Merah Hospital and Pasir Mas Hospital, and this enabled operations in the hospitals to be functional since yesterday.

"Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has also indicated that it would provide a 1,000kVA capacity generator to the Kuala Krai Hospital," he said in a statement issued in Kuala Lumpur.

To ensure a safe water supply, the ministry purchased 10 units of water filters to be supplied to hospitals in Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Tumpat, Jeli, and Pasir Mas, while tankers with clean water supply are also being arranged with the cooperation of Syarikat Perkhidmatan Air Negara.   

   

To ensure that patients receive adequate oxygen supply, 50 oxygen tanks have been sent to the Tanah Merah Hospital while the Jeli and Kuala Krai Hospitals received 30 and 10 oxygen tanks respectively.

Noor Hisham added that 265kg of rice and baby food was sent to the Kuala Krai Hospital for distribution to other hospitals as required.

In the meantime, he said, critically ill patients have also been moved from the Gua Musang Hospital to the Kuala Lipis Hospital.
