The Edge Media Group's owner Tong Kooi Ong has served a legal notice on Jho Low over what he claimed are malicious attacks by the billionaire against him.

 

Tong said the legal notice demanded that Jho Low stop "malicious lies" against him and his media organisations The Edge and The Malaysian Insider .

 

"I believe Low Taek Jho or Jho Low is the person responsible for the malicious lies and fabrication against The Edge Media Group and I, through several blogs using the Wordpress blogging platform," he said in a statement today.

 

Tong ( right ) has been the target of articles in cyberspace alleging his involvement in manipulating the value of the ringgit, which has been performing its poorest in decades.

 

The attacks, carried on several anonymous blogs, also targeted former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohmad and Nazir Abdul Razak, brother of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

 

The blogs include kamibukanbodohtau.wordpress.com , corruptednazirrazak.wordpress.com , kronismemahathir.wordpress.com , politikukus.wordpress.com and malaysianexpose.wordpress.com .

 

Jho Low had previously denied being involved in any smear campaign against Tong.

 

Blogs accusing Tong have 'shut down'

Tong had made the conclusion after discovering the anonymous blogger was also responsible for several other blogs that promoted Jho Low and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

 

The blogs include bisnes2malaysia.wordpress.com , worldofcorporate.wordpress.com and todayinbusiness.wordpress.com . 

 

Tong said the author of the blog which went by the name of ahrily90 had also used several other aliases including ‘pen jingga’, ‘julijulipeh’, ‘saberarturia18’ and ‘rahmanirwan74’.

 

"Knowing we are on his trail, some of the sites were recently shut down.

 

"However, we have downloaded their entire contents as we were able to save them before they were taken down," said Tong.

 

Tong, who was accused by the blogs of being an economic saboteur, also detailed the hatchet job articles on these blogs which he said coincided with The Edge questioning the controversial 1MDB.

 

He said his organisations have only highlighted issues at 1MDB as they are "fearful of the fallout for the country should it fail", pointing out that it has failed to meet three deadlines to pay a RM2 billion loan to a consortium of Malaysian banks.

 

"All the spinning by 1MDB cannot hide this fact.

 

"In highlighting the challenges the country faces, we are not sabotaging the nation.

 

"Instead, we believe it will help direct people towards finding solutions for the betterment of the country," Tong said.
