'Thank you for making the picture crystal clear'
YOURSAY John Malott's comment 'a damning indictment on the sad state' of the court.
The world, in unison, slams the Anwar verdict
Anonymous #19098644: This is what is meant by an objective, factual and logical analysis of the facts of the case.
It is a damning indictment on the sad state of the highest court in the land whose reputation, professionalism, competence and integrity has been compromised, so as to make it a laughing stock of the judicial world.
It clearly reflects the sad state of affairs of this minority government clinging to power by orchestrating the false conviction of the leading opposition figure of the country.
Anonymous_1397977242: Thank you, sir. You made the picture crystal clear for me.
Discovery: Mr John Mallot, thank you for speaking out for all Malaysians who are revolted to the core with the injustice done to Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and his family. We are 101 percent sure that these judges knew that Anwar is not guilty but they have the "moral courage" to convict him for reasons only known to them.
The Mask: "Can you name one foreign government, one international human rights organisation, one international newspaper, one foreign think-tank, or one overseas academician who agrees with the decision - and who concurs with your assertion that the verdict was the just conclusion of an independent judiciary?"
To the five judges, chew on the above statement, and isn't it a slap on your faces?
Siang Malam: Good analysis, Mr Ambassador. Most Malaysians smart enough would fully agree with what you have written. And thank you for helping us highlight the crap judiciary we have to live with.
WDA: You're on point, Mr Mallot. Thanks for keeping the focus on Anwar Ibrahim. I agree we need to keep bringing up the opposition leader's name until the present establishment is sick in the stomach.
However, let us not be too distracted with Anwar's imprisonment that we stop asking the 'other' important questions that make them uneasy and at a loss for words, like: "What was the motive for Altantuya's murderers?", "How did the government use a gambling kingpin to assist in securing the security of our country?", and "Why was a senior minister asking the Malays to boycott only Chinese traders?", just to name a few.
I believe former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mahathir is doing a pretty good job on his own in keeping the pressure on 1Mlaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Behsaikong: Truth is truth, whether the source is foreign or native!
SteveOh: An excellent article. Independent judiciary? Yeah, very independent indeed. Independent of the truth, independent of justice, and independent of the facts that all point to the innocence of the framed man charged.
Independent is a dirty word and we can understand why Anwar was upset after the foul verdict.
Odin: Mr Malott, you asked if it (the sex act) was consensual, and why the Prime Minister's Office called Saiful a 'victim' of sexual assault. It would seem it was the result of minds confused by the so many lies that they (the same minds) have churned out and thus have inadvertently incriminated themselves (the minds).
That, in addition to the overpowering desire to tell another lie as soon as possible, has made them trip up. Poetic justice, you might say? Have a great night/day!
Kim Quek: This conviction of Anwar Ibrahim is Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's greatest mistake. Internationally, this self-styled moderate leader has been turned into a pariah, virtually overnight.
And at home, his nemesis Mahathir stepped on the accelerator to depose him immediately after Mahathir's most-feared enemy Anwar was jailed. Yes, this good-for-nothing prime minister deserves to be deposed. And deposed he will be. Show him no mercy, just as he showed no hesitation to deliver the cruellest blow to Anwar.
As for the opposition, don't worry, it will become even stronger and more united in purpose. Anwar's suffering will be a constant inspiration to goad the alliance to march on, with even greater determination towards Putrajaya.
Moontime: I think we have had enough of rhetoric. Now it's time for action. We need to get Anwar out of prison. And we need to do it now! Remember how he was treated the last time? The two attempts on his life - severe beating by then inspector-general of police Rahim Noor and arsenic poisoning.
It looks like Malaysia is fast turning into the Philippines of the early 80s. We have the Marcoses (Najib and Rosmah Mansor), the corrupt police force, and the equally inept justice system. If the powers-that-be decide to ignore history and naively think that it will never happen here, they will be gravely mistaken. Time for people power, ala Malaysia!
Gaji Buta: Simple. Anwar screwed up and the government took full advantage. What more to say, other than that a lot of money and energy were spent to put him in jail and significant tension was created within the population. Is this how a responsible government acts? Maybe a fearful one...
Master Sun: Totally agree with John R Malott, for outside or inside Malaysia, everyone has criticised the Anwar verdict. All I can say is when everyone is complaining, this is called injustice. A shame to Malaysia's judiciary.
Kancil: Witchhunt! Malaysian government not only appealed against the High Court's decision but further engaged a senior Umno lawyer from the Bar - a never before - to hunt down Anwar in the Court of Appeal and Federal Court on its behalf...
Vijay47: In your litany of 'sins' heaped upon our prime minister, you mention with scorn the fact that he met Saiful before the event that the court duly found Anwar guilty of.
Yes, Najib did meet Saiful to counsel him on education opportunities available. In the words of our IGP, "Is that illegal?" Can a concerned prime minister not advise a youth on what the future holds for him? That Najib cannot meet every youth is no reason why he should not meet some youths.
Similarly, we do not find anything wrong with Saiful meeting with SAC Rodwan, since it was but another in the on-going efforts launched by our IGP to foster good relations between society and the police force.
Touche: Pakatan and Dr M should join forces for once to start a movement calling for the resignation of Najib. I m pretty sure the whole nation will support such a movement
Factnot fiction: Well analysed, clearly written article; but you are casting pearl before swine.
