Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad is not one to refrain from taking questions on politics and related issues. But today, he insisted that questions should be on the event he attended.

Speaking to reporters at the Perdana University in Serdang, Mahathir, when asked to comment on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), said the firm was not related to the university.

"1MDB is not about the university, we don't borrow money from them. It (the question) is not relevant, sorry," he said.

Pressed further on whether he would continue criticising the fund now that the auditor-general has been asked to look through its accounts, Mahathir said he would address that question at another time.

"I will find some other time to answer that question, right now, we should focus on health education," he said.

At the onset of the press conference, Perdana University chairperson Mohan Swami JP told journalists that questions should be related to the university, prompting Mahathir to laugh and respond, “Yes, okay.”

When reporters tried again to ask him unrelated questions after the press conference, Mahathir repeated that he will answer them at another time.

Although Mahathir was courteous with his reply, smiling and shaking his head when speaking, his bodyguards were not as gracious with one pushing away several reporters who were leaning on the table.

This prompted one reporter to tick off the said bodyguard for pushing her.
