About a dozen activists today "revisited" the Federal Territories Customs Department, a week after they were apprehended while seeking answers to 106 questions on the goods and services tax (GST).

This time round, the group had wanted to express their dissatisfaction over the answers given.

Among other grouses, the group said 17 questions remained unanswered.

The police - including dog units and riot police - were at the scene to observe proceedings.

However, the activists came with a bouquet of flowers as a peace token.

Last Monday, about 100 activists had staged a sit-in at the Customs Department office after they were not allowed to have their questions answered by the department's GST information centre.

Police then rounded up 80 people for alleged trespassing. Several activists claim they were assaulted during the process.

'Closed' on Day 1 of GST

Meanwhile, the activists were told that the Customs Department was closed for the time being and would only be open at 2pm.

Responding to this, Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin criticised the Customs Department for closing on the very day that GST is implemented.

Later, Kuala Lumpur Customs Department acting director Abd Gani Othman met the activists and mostly kept quiet while he listened to Arutchelvan reading the group's statement.

On questions why the Customs Department had given general answers to some of the questions, Gani said simply said it was not under the Customs jurisdiction to answer some of the questions.

Arutchelvan said apart from the 17 unanswered questions, 63 of the answers were not relevant to the questions posed as they were rhetoric and general in nature.

"Only 26 questions were answered properly," he said.

Big rally planned

Badrul Hisham later said the group will announce that a mass rally against the GST is being planned.

"We will gather one million people to protest against the GST. We want to tell Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak that you are the minority (in terms of popular vote).

"And among the minority, even (former prime minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad and (Umno MP) Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah are against it. So we won't hesistate to urge Najib to remove the tax," he said.

Fifteen minutes later, Abd Gani came out again and received the bouquet of flowers from the activists, who said they simply wanted to work together with the department.

Several minutes later, Abd Gani said the Department has received the group's memorandum, and showed acknowledgement of receipt stamp on the copy of the memorandum.
