Gov’t should pledge no abuse of ALL tax revenues
YOURSAY ‘It’s not the first time gov’t has promised not to abuse taxes collected.’
Minister vows no abuse of GST tax revenue
We Are Concerned: We can trust no one as far as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) money is concerned.
You can talk until cows come home, you cannot guarantee how the money is being spent and how projects are priced and awarded for the benefit of the undeserving few.
Most importantly, there must be transparency and good governance.
Louis: Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Hasan Malek, yes, 170 countries have implemented GST. Singapore has done it. Australia as well.
But, those countries are prudent with the tax and they have proven to be so. On the other hand, this is not the first time the government has promised not to abuse taxes collected.
Year in year out, the auditor-general reports prove otherwise. Stop kidding, won't you? We are sick to the stomach with such empty promises.
Ksn: Hasan, can you define no abuse of GST revenue so that we the public know what the GST revenue will and will not be spent on? Empty words mean little to the public.
Anonymous_1371515574: Indeed, talk is cheap. With the auditor-general reporting gross misuse of funds every year, I am wondering how this man can vow that our taxes will not be misused.
Is there's a hudud law for those who make such vows but cannot fulfill them?
Vking: There are too many proven instances that public funds were mismanaged through wastages and malpractices.
Enough is enough, such a bad record should not repeat again. The voters are smart now, and if this weakness is not eradicated, it will result in a change of mandate to Pakatan Rakyat in the coming general election.
Progressive: This government has shown a propensity to spend, spend and spend on non-essentials.
Why do we need a consulate in Pekanbaru in Sumatra? Why need to buy Toyota SUVs for some government departments?
And why the civil service continues to bloat? Indeed, Putrajaya is being financed by the Malaysian GST payers. Downsize the civil service now.
Naatamai: Are the GST proceeds going into s special account that can be monitored? No, it's going into the common coffer. All of us are not Felda settlers whom you can cheat as in the case of FGV (Felda Global Ventures).
Wira: If the honourable minister knows exactly where the GST money go to, I also want to know how the money from gambling tax is spent. Are you sure there is no mixing of the two?
The Analyser: It's a pity Hasan hasn't the ethics to promise that all government expenditure won't be abused.
By the way, spending money on religious buildings is an abuse of public money.
Well Thats Fantastic: Is Hasan agreeing that there is already massive abuse of our tax money collected?
Hmmmmmmmm: And how about no abuse of other tax revenues too?
Patriot1: Hasan, you are not in charge of Customs or the Treasury, so who are you to comment on the usage of tax revenues?
Commentable: The public must have had heard of this so many times before but in the end it's the same old, same old that keeps happening.
My fellow Malaysians are darn angry, so don't go around making empty promises and assurances.
Tell you what, do you know how one can be assured that there is no abuse of any kind of tax revenue, be it GST or otherwise?
The answer is simple; just vote you guys out of Putrajaya, and the sooner the better.
Malaysia Ku: Why does Hasan even need to say that GST collections will "not be abused"?
It shows how rampant the national kitty is being raided by these crooks. And he is to be believed?
Disgusted: Who is Hasan to make such a promise when PM Najib Razak as PM and finance minister dips into the government’s kitty to save 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Hasan, go and tell it to the marines as the Brits will say. Your words and assurances don’t amount to anything.
It’s better to shut up before you embarrass yourself. If it does not happen as you say and rakyat will mock you as a small-time minister blowing hot air.
Negarawan: The abuse has already started with the whopping and unjustified 140 percent increase in MP/speaker salaries. What's next? Use the money to pay 1MDB debts?
Sb: Paying for 1MDB will not be considered an abuse. But others can abuse the funds in 1MDB.
