'Low Yat a diversion from 'bigger issues'?

Simmering tensions over the brawl in Bukit Bintang last night should not distract the people from bigger national issues, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

He said the people should not fall into the trap of the "masters" in racial politics.

"The people are advised to be careful and wary. Even though the Low Yat Plaza incident is worrying, the people should not be trapped into the racial issue that is being fanned.

"Bigger issues, such as the controversy involving the country's funds and a top leader's integrity, (should not) be forgotten," he said.

While Tuan Ibrahim ( photo ) was not specific about these "bigger issues", it is believed he was referring to the 1MDB scandal involving Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

A series of damning exposes have alleged that RM2.6 billion had been channelled into Najib's personal bank accounts through 1MDB subsidiaries.

Being cheated no excuse for public fight

Tuan Ibrahim said the people should not let issues such as 1MDB's RM42 billion debts be covered up by products worth just thousands of ringgit.

"Being cheated was not an excuse for the public to fight and play up racial sentiments," he said, adding that the police and other authorities should act swiftly and fairly in resolving the crisis.

Tuan Ibrahim said Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry should also act as soon as possible to ensure that buyers are aware of their own rights, while the traders operate with ethics.

"The police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) should stop those on the social media from arousing racial sentiments.

"Racial harmony is the national asset which we should defend at all times," he added.
