Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to continue its probe without fear or favour.

He said this means even having to question Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"Our stand is that all investigations on the issues raised must resume until we have a clear picture and the investigation results must convince the people.

"If prime minister himself needed to give a statement, if they honestly believe in transparency of the investigation, then it is one of the thing that could strengthen the investigation," he told a press conference at the Umno headquarters today.

In a statement yesterday, the MACC had revealed plans to summon Najib ( photo ) for an explanation on the RM2.6 billion that it confirmed earlier this week had come from a 'middle eastern' donor and not 1MDB as previously suspected.

Previously Khairy had said that the money came from "Umno supporters", following MACC's statement on Monday .

On July 3 , US-based financial daily  The Wall Street Journal  (WSJ) reported that RM2.6 billion went into Najib's private bank accounts and the sum was used for the last general election.

Najib has kept mum on the allegation, except to state that the money wasn't used "for personal gain".

Meanwhile Khairy also commented on the Opposition members gathering at the MACC headquarters calling for support to the graftbusters saying they have their own political reasons to do so but admitted that the commission should remain independent and allowed to continue its investigation uninterrupted.

"I was told that many opposition leaders are present today to show support to MACC. They have their own political reasons even though they did not use to believe them. But it is important that its integrity be defended and no party should stop them from doing its job," he said.
