Najib to Umno: Don't turn on me after getting funds

Aries46: If as PM Najib Razak claims the RM2.6 billion that went into his bank accounts in March 2013 was a donation and he had distributed it to Umno divisions, why is that none of the Umno officials, including his deputy, vice-presidents and the supreme council, were aware of it until it surfaced through the recent video expose ?

If Najib's claim that what he had done is solely for party interest and above board, why was it kept a secret? And why is he crowing his innocence only now, with the cat out of the bag?

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) unilaterally clearing him and its claim of it being a donation, in the midst of the recent police clamp down on its personnel, is highly suspect and contrary to the assurances thus far that the people must wait for the task force and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) findings on 1MDB.

So what happened to these investigations? Why were they derailed if there was nothing to hide? Blaming the opposition and challenging them at this late stage is a childish attempt to conceal the source and avert the slew of allegations of impropriety directed his way.

Ferdtan: Najib, why is it only Umno’s accounts that you dared to present for the public to view with the condition that the opposition does the same?

No, we want you to disclose your bank statement from the time the RM2.6 billion was transferred to your account until it was closed a few months later. That is what we want to know.

It is not the official Umno account that we are interested. As usual, you come up with a ‘straw man’ argument to sidetrack the real issue.

The part concerning the RM2.6 billion, identified in only a few bank transactions, is public knowledge. We just don’t know where the money came from and to whom it went.

How did you disburse RM2.6 billion to Umno leaders? Was it by cheques, telegraphic transfers, bank drafts or in bags of cash?

For the first three disbursement methods, Najib had to sign many thousands of banking documents, depending on the amounts of each payout. His bank statement would run in tens of pages.

Or is it by bags of cash? Don’t forget, RM2.6 billion is a lot of money. In smaller denominations, it will take more than a big truck to carry. Or was the money sent to only a few accounts in very large amounts?

The big, big question is, who were the recipients? Since there were no proper records, no one from Umno, including the ex-DPM Muhyiddin Yassin, knew about it. Did all the money go to the Umno leaders?

If the answer is affirmative, then Najib should show it to the nation to shame all those ungrateful Umno leaders who had received the money but are not supporting him.

Bamboo: So, it's an open admission that BN has 'bought' all the general elections thus far. Now, new questions arise. Where are the sources of the money?

I can say the likely source is the inflated priced contracts and commissions from government projects and procurements.

Hplooi: There you have it. This is as clear as you can get. Umno exists to generate money for its members (of course, how much actually goes to the party and how much actually went to members is anyone's guess as no oversight is ever in place).

Despite what Umno apologists will say, many of the so-called 'donations' are: (1) outright arm-twisting of the corporate world, (2) sweetheart deals with cronies who pass over a certain percentage (this is corruption), and (3) direct allocation from national resources (such as the resources gifted to 1MDB).

This kind of looting has been going on since Dr Mahathir Mohamad, but under Najib it has gone bigger and more blatant.

But Umno diehards keep insisting no public funds were used. Truly the late Tok Guru was right when he called Umno a party of ‘syaitan’.

FellowMalaysian: The fact is that PM Najib has to go around town to remind Umno leaders that they have benefitted too from the RM2.6 billion donations that he had received and distributed to the many divisions.

Najib had to resort to pleading with the division heads to declare their allegiance and support because the response from the party's division leaders towards the central leadership has been rather lukewarm, especially after the sacking of his deputy Muhyiddin and minister Mohd Shafie Apdal.

If Najib is ever such a true virtuous leader accountable for his actions, he should divulge the source of the unimaginable sum of donation without the need to challenge the opposition to do the same.

By refusing to name the golden goose, Najib's feckless action will further cause an erosion of confidence in his leadership as the prime minister as well as the president of Umno.

Bringon14: Najib, so in other words the money that was received was used to win the elections? This would be in contravention of election rules.

That being the case, should you not be subject to the proper range of investigations and if you are found to be guilty to then subsequently face the music?

RM2.6 billion is a very large amount of money and to say that you could actually get someone (one donor) to part with this amount of money without any strings attached must mean that the person must really love you very much.

For you to expect us to believe that is akin to expecting us to believe that there is such a thing as a tooth fairy. The more we read, the less we believe that you are telling the truth.

Casey: Under desperate circumstances, tyranny provides a relief denied even to a dictator. Najib is desperate; real desperate. And the most dangerous man to a parliamentary democracy is a prime minister who is desperate and unable to think things out.

Almost inevitably he will lead Umno to its demise. Hence, pragmatic Umno goons are left with the choice of a mutiny or abandonment of ship; whichever is the lesser of two evils.

Malaysia Ku: Finally he says it. Money to buy your souls. Now, didn't something hideous from the dark forces said that too.

Justine Gow: We have all the ingredients needed for a No 1 best-selling novel or drama series - power play, sex, murder, corruption, betrayal, espionage, rebellion, twists and turns, and deceptions.
