Umno members may be greedy, but not foolish

YOURSAY ‘To believe the ‘donation’ is like asking them to slap their own face.’

'Attack' my attackers, Najib urges Umno

Anak JB: I think the Umno members themselves are struggling to justify the unjustifiable. It is like arguing that a dried-and-salted fish can still swim.

A lot of people are taking to social media because they could not comprehend the incomprehensible argument. Clearly an undeclared donation to a public servant is a bribe.

Visu: PM Najib Razak is in a state of delusion. Three million Umno members are all not fools.

Yes, they might be greedy and selfish but to expect Umno members to be utterly foolish to believe this fairy tale of conspiracy, deceit and outright lies is like asking them to slap their own face.

Bluemountains: By asking Umno members to attack critics on social media will not clear Najib of alleged wrongdoings.

He can only clear himself if he allows the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Bank Negara to follow the money trail all the way to the source so that the truth can be unveiled.

Kingfisher: Indeed, a dangerous desperation in this call to party members to "attack my attackers" from a man who heads the party that led the country into independence and gained the overwhelming support of its multiracial population.

This open call for belligerency from a party that is acknowledged as a dominant political force is very telling of its leadership weaknesses some would think.

A party organisation is made of individuals with prerogatives of membership as well as obligations towards the party.

Individuals exercise a fundamental freedom to express support or dissent to the party leadership as determined by the calibre, responsibilty and accountability of its leaders to the party's super-ordinate goals within the ambit of the broader rule of law of the nation.

No one individual can claim to be party visionary in his own right and seek blind obedience from members. No single party member should have extraterritorial prerogatives whatever one's status and whatsoever the pretext for any such claims.

Hplooi: Despite the clear looting of the country, all Umno can think of is 'perception management' and blaming the opposition.

Despite a clear case of mismanagement, the Umno grassroots refused to see the real picture. Despite being gifted with national resources, 1MDB used this as collateral to obtain loans. Despite obtaining the loans, no manageable scheme was in place to generate income but instead an unsustainable mountain of debt was created.

If the Umno grassroots cannot see through this then this country deserve another 100 years of looting and the continued pauperisation of the citizens.

Doc: As a person who believes in only scientific fact, there appears to be a sliver of truth in all the talk about Umno's so-called ‘RAHMAN’ curse and that Umno's reign of power as the ruling party will end when the party president whose name begins with ‘N’ takes over as party president.

The prophecy seems to be on course when Najib took over as party president but I just brushed this aside as sheer "coincidence".

Today as I see the political events unfold and the sheer stupidity, arrogance and corruption plaguing the Najib administration, my thought on this prophecy has changed.

I think Najib's administration will come crashing like a ton of bricks. Prophecies generally take eons to happen but it this case, we may see this becoming fact in the next few weeks to months.

Prudent: Whatever Najib's fault, Malaysians must not support Najib's ouster by the Ketuanan Melayu's extreme right-wing of Umno as represented by Muhyiddin Yassin, Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Perkasa.

The correct and safe method is to oust Najib by a vote of no confidence in Parliament, followed by a caretaker government led by a non-Umno/BN caretaker PM and parliamentary elections three to six months later. Let's pray that this will happen.

Negarawan: Mahatma Gandhi once said: The willing sacrifice of the innocent is the most powerful answer to insolent tyranny that has yet been conceived by God and man. Malaysians must reflect on these words.

Gunnerrun: The truth is much more than a game of perception as played up by the mainstream and online media.

You already have a hundred or more commentators here in Malaysiakini , several hundred paid sites run by your shameless bloggers and still you are declaring this is not enough and all Umno members need to go on a more offensive front?

Can you control the grapevines? The coffee shop talks?

J Ng: Congratulations must go to Malaysiakini. With Najib's call, subscribers of this online portal will increase many folds.

Hopefully, these new Umno cyber troopers will write with better English and can present more logical arguments. The present batch of comments is truly pathetic.

Other than using online cyber mercenaries, Najib should also step up his PR team’s effort.

The present arguments from some of his cabinet members are equally pathetic. Their effort is worsening Najib's credibility and image.
