Pile on pressure to oust Najib, urges PKR

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has called on community leaders, NGOs and the public to continue piling pressure on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to quit.

If they remain silent, he said, Najib would remain in his post.

He noted that more than a month has passed since The Wall Street Journal report of RM2.6 billion being transferred into the prime minister's private accounts and two weeks since Najib dropped Muhyiddin Yassin from the Cabinet.

"If people resign to the belief that there is nothing they can do, Najib would remain as prime minister and more damage would be done.

"I want to remind the public, NGOs and community leaders to take the initiative to mount pressure on Najib to resign.

"Efforts must be taken to ensure that major scandals do not blow over and all must take the initiative," he said in a media statement.

On his part, the Pandan lawmaker said he would be organising a solat hajat (special prayer) and a gathering with the hashtag " #saveMalaysia and support MACC" at Padang Perbandaran Ampang Jaya from 7.30pm-11pm tomorrow.

Rafizi ( photo ) also called on other MPs and community leaders to organise similar prayers and gatherings on a weekly basis until Najib resigns and an independent investigation is carried out to bring the perpetrators to justice.

"If such prayers and gatherings are held weekly, it would build a momentum in the run up to the Bersih 4 rally slated for the end of this month," he said.

Rafizi said a raft of opposition leaders would attend the prayer session and gathering in his constituency such as DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, PKR election director Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Gerakan Harapan Baru chairperson Mohamad Sabu.
