Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz said she will not resign amidst speculation that she is under probe.

Speaking to reporters today, Zeti said she will complete her five-year term, which ends in 2016.

"I certainly will remain in office until my term ends," she said during a press conference today to announce second quarter GDP figures.

She also dismissed rumours that she is in ill health and has recently suffered a heart attack.

On the contrary, she told reporters that doctors have informed her that she has a strong heart and her arteries are clear.

“I’m on absolutely no medication and have never taken any medication. I wish that I remembered to take the multivitamins,” she quipped.

On allegations that Bank Negara officials were plotting to topple the government, Zeti said the central bank is investigating the matter and would take legal action.

Similarly, she also dismissed numerous rumours being circulated on blogs against her and her family.

Allegations made by anonymous persons

Zeti confirmed that seven Bank Negara officers have been investigated by the police so far for purportedly leaking information from its investigations.

This followed police investigation and raids against seven Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers over the same issue. The investigation has since been suspended.

“Many of these allegations are made by anonymous (persons). We will seek to find out who they are, and take further legal action on them.

“Right now, we don’t know who they are. We have some idea and follow up on leads on who they are, but remain anonymous so far,” she told reporters.

As for herself, she said she has yet to be questioned by the police, since she has been in the US until two days ago.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu ( photo ) Bakar had previously denied investigating Zeti under Section 124B of the Penal Code, as was done with the MACC officers.

However, he did not rule out that possibility .

“We'll see. Questioning those whom we believe can shed light on an investigation is part of procedure," he told Malaysiakini on Aug 3.
