MP: Probe 'certain powers hiding SRC witness'
A DAP lawmaker has urged the authorities to find out who is attempting to hide the main witness in the investigation into SRC International Sdn Bhd.
He wants this person or persons investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code.
Gobind Singh Deo was responding to the revelation by former police special branch deputy director Abdul Hamid Bador, who alleged that the main witness had disappeared with the help of certain powers.
Without going into details, Gobind ( photo ) said one of the main witnesses sought by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was previously hiding in Indonesia and Thailand, and is now in hiding in New Zealand.
Calling for a full and open investigation, Gobind said the identities of the so-called 'certain powers' must be established.
"Act against them if investigations reveal that they have offended the law. Suppressing information or interfering with officers or witnesses in a criminal investigation is wrong.
"It points towards obstruction of justice and may amount to a criminal offence under Section 186 of the Penal Code," he said.
A maximum of two-years imprisonment or a fine of up to RM10,000 can be imposed on those found guilty of the charge.
Gobind pointed out that allegation did not come from an ordinary policeman, but from a very high-ranking officer.
Hence, the DAP legal bureau chief added, attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali and inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar must respond.
"We cannot allow allegations like these to remain. They go to the root of it all," he said.
"Silence in the light of such serious allegations would lead to a serious loss of confidence in our criminal justice system.
"It also makes it look toothless and hopeless," Gobind added.
Abdul Hamid ( photo ), who served the police force for 37-years, was transferred to the Prime Minister's Department on Aug 11.
Though he appeared vexed and claimed to be in the dark over the transfer, IGP Khaid said it was normal and he dismissed claims of any "cleansing" in the police Special Branch.
On Saturday, Abdul Hamid claimed that a group dubbed 'Gang Hang Tuah' aimed to snuff out the 1MDB issue.
