In Morais murder, AG’s Chambers slams intimidation
The Attorney-General's Chambers said it does not fear acts of intimidation such as the murder of deputy public prosecutor Kevin Anthony Morais.
"The AG’s Chambers will not be cowed by such acts of cowardice and intimidation against any of its officers.
"The rule of law can never be allowed to be undermined if Malaysia is to uphold its parliamentary democracy," it said in a statement last night.
Morais ( left ) was abducted two weeks ago after leaving his home on his way to his office.
His body was discovered by police yesterday morning in an oil barrel filled with concrete in Subang Jaya.
The AG’s Chambers said it wants justice for this gruesome act, and called for a thorough investigation.
"While respecting the separation of functions between investigators and prosecutors, we strongly urge the police to investigate thoroughly to enable the perpetrators to be identified, found and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
"This is the least the chambers owes one of its own," it said.
The AG’s Chambers paid tribute to Morais as a dedicated officer.
"(He was) an officer who has served the nation proudly, professionally and with complete dedication and commitment at home and abroad.
"Morais truly epitomised the adage 'prosecuting without fear and favour' throughout his long, illustrious career."
