YOURSAY 'However, Hishamudin has the deep respect of all right-thinking M’sians.'

Yes, PM stymied promotion, says retired judge Hishamudin

Azhar: Retired Court of Appeal judge Mohd Hishamudin Mohd Yunus, you are indeed a judge of true calibre, courage and professionalism. It is individuals like you who are sorely needed by the country today. Not just given to rhetoric about equality and serving the rakyat, but in demonstrating it by way of action.

Sadly, you belong to only a few in the judiciary.

Like you, many others including those who were assaulted in the attack on the judiciary under a previous PM (a precedent set for others to emulate). Gopal Sri Ram, NH Chan and Syed Ahmad Idid, to name a few of like integrity, have paid the price.

However, in the eyes of the people and before your maker, you stand upright. I, and informed Malaysians salute you sir. We pray for your continued good health so that you can continue to contribute to the nation in a positive and meaningful way. The scholarship given to you was certainly merited.

Anonymous_1196: PM appoints judges? No wonder he is untouchable.

Benghazi: They're practising 'meritocracy' as they understand it. Those who 'bodek' the boss, they merit promotion. It isn't the "know-how" anymore, but it's the "know-who". The judiciary should not be subservient to the executive (read PM). Only then would there be independence of the judiciary.

Buttman: Hishamudin was the best CJ Malaysia never had - just as Anwar Ibrahim would have been the best PM. However, the tides can turn, and can prevail once again - if enough people will it so.

Speechless: Hishamudin, you have my utmost respect. The country needs more judges like you.

Anonyxyz: In all honesty, this is not only for the judiciary or the BN government, as it happens in all sectors. In private companies if you don't ’bodek’ the top few guys, you will also be bypassed. This is the sad part of Malaysia. We will take generations to change if ever we will.

HOPE: Sad days for our nation. An honored judge had retired. However, a thousand thanks to him for his great service to the nation and its people. This is one of those rare judges who can walk tall with his head held high. Have a happy retirement.

Cocomomo: Don't be disappointed, sir. You should be proud for being on the side of right and . Those who pander (for money, status or other favours) to the executive, are on the side of wrong and have allowed darkness to envelope them.

Feel sorry for them as history will record their darkness and imagine how they will stand in fear when they stand before the supreme judge of eternity.

Clearwater: In the judiciary, the police, the civil service, even the armed forces, top level appointments are all subject to ultimate political approval. This is why a rotten prime minister elevates only pliant loyalists to top positions, thus ensuring he remains in charge while the system decays. Don't like it? Vote with your feet.

SemoLina: It is no great honour to be handpicked by the PM.

Ah-hah!!!: This highlights the need to respect that the judiciary is not subjected to the executive. The two are meant to be independent of each other, part of the check and balance against abuses of power. In particular, Najib should not have had any say over Hishamudin's promotion.

ACR: My lord, it is a great honour to be damned by evil. It proves you were on the side of truth and righteousness. Why despair - you are a happy man today and who sleeps well at night.

"I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong." - Abraham Lincoln.

Anonymous_1371995112: A man of integrity and love, respected by all, is anytime far superior than a man who is cursed, condemned, called all kind of names, and has his ancestors insulted. Happy retirement.

Fairplayer: At least this righteous man understands the sorrows and grief of the competent among the oppressed and the suppressed. God bless you with a meaningful retirement, dear Mohd Hishamudin Mohd Yunus.

Sleepy: The greatest compliment one can receive is from your fellow rakyat, which is never forgotten. Happy retirement and enjoy life.

Mohican: Bushels of thanks, yang arif , most respected. The love and respect you command from the rakyat, without having to expend any money to earn that, is worth any elevation to a higher level.

You have put up a good fight and won the race. Now it is a matter of time before you collect the heavenly crown awaiting you for your sense of honesty, fairness and love for the nation.

As Tagore put it: “Let us not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless when facing them."

Headhunter: I hope Hishamudin would not just retire into oblivion but spare some time to join others to fight for a fair and just Malaysia. Having inside knowledge of the rotten system in the country and with his wisdom and stature, he could still contribute greatly for a better Malaysia and will be well remembered for it.

Mushiro: Yes, all of them studied at the London School of Economics where they understood the law very well. But when it came to honesty, integrity, sincerity, conscience and greed, I guess it was upbringing and a bit of self-development that moulded them. Hishamudin will live with a clear and peaceful mind - Najib has deprived him and robbed him of his personal

Mickeymouse: Happy retirement sir and thank you for your contribution. History will judge you accordingly. On the same note, Malaysians are still waiting for attorney-general Apandi Ali's actions based upon Bank Negara governor Zeti Aziz's report on the 1MDB's issue. No further action, probably.

Appum: You see a dignified man talking here. A gentleman who had carried out his work and duties without fear or favour, not caring for rewards of promotion and position. This is how ‘dignity’ is perceived and understood. Against someone who would bend his principles and position to serve a drowning rat.

That is exactly what Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah meant when he said that we have failed because the institutions have failed. And all the institutions from the top to the bottom have failed. Who and what has caused such failures?

It is so clear, that Umno-BN is solely and fully responsible because they have ruled this nation from day one for 58 years continuously. It is all about corruption to the core, incompetent leadership (ministers and all), cronyism, mismanagement of resources, weak and poorly thought out policies, short term gains, and race-based policies.

If not for the economy driven by the private sector, this nation would have ‘kaput’ long ago. Yet this is the victim used by racists as a whipping horse all the time.

Fair Play: A towering Malaysian from the judiciary. There is hope yet.

Dis Fed-up Man: This is dignity. Can anyone take that away from him?
