Artist Bilqis Hijjas will be charged tomorrow for allegedly dropping yellow balloons during an event at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur attended by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

Her legal team said Bilqis will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court tomorrow under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for “insulting behaviour” with intent to provoke breach of peace.

If found guilty, she can be fined up to RM100.

Bilqis had dropped the balloons at Pavillion Shopping Mall on Aug 31, a day after the 34-hour Bersih 4 rally.

The rally was to call for clean governance, and Najib’s resignation amid corruption investigations.

The yellow balloons allegedly were printed with the rally’s demands.

In a separate statement, coalition for clean and fair election Bersih said the charge is deplorable.

“Bersih condemns the charge which is meant to punish this young woman for an absurd offence.

“This is while the real crooks who rob the nation of its riches remain free with no risk of legal action.”
