The resurgence of the haze scourge afer a brief respite last week continues to cloak Klang Valley in unhealthy levels in the 201 to 300 Air Pollutants Index (API) range.
The smog reduced visibility to just a few hundred metres, and causing respiratory related problems to city folks and limiting outdoor activities.
The air quality in Shah Alam, Port Klang, Petaling Jaya and Batu Muda continued to deteriorate as at 10am this morning as the Air Pollutant Index (API) rose above the very unhealthy level with readings surpassing 200.
Bernama reported the Department of Environment's (DOE) saying Shah Alam recorded the highest API reading of 279, followed by Port Klang (255), Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur (250) and Petaling Jaya (226).
DOE said 14 areas recorded unhealthy air quality with Putrajaya recording 197, Banting (187), Sri Aman (185), Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (177), Kuala Selangor (171), Seremban 152, Samarahan (144), Nilai (143), Kuching, Tanjung Malim (141), Port Dickson (132), Sri Manjung, Jerantut (120) and Bukit Rambai (105).
Melaka City which registered a reading of 101 at 8pm this morning improved to 97 as at 10am to join 26 other areas that registered moderate readings, among them Sarikei (99), Tawau (96), Kemaman (80), Sibu (77) and Kuala Terengganu (76).
Only five areas registered good air quality, namely Perai (48), Tanah Merah (42), Langkawi (31), Alor Setar (30) and Kangar (27).
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy and 300 and above, hazardous.
