Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron should solve the state's disco problem instead of hitting out at those who help him, said former soldier Mohd Ali Baharom today.

Speaking to Malaysiakini , Mohd Ali, better known as Ali Tinju, said nightclubs caused many social ills in the state such as drunkenness and drug use, which could lead to road accidents, theft, and even rape.

"I advise Idris to go to ground to observe the discos in Malacca which are open till 6am.

"It is better for him to solve that problem rather than to accuse me of nonsense," Mohd Ali said when contacted.

He said this when asked to respond to Idris' criticisms of him over a planned protest in Malacca this Saturday.

The protest, which has been cancelled, was over an attack on immigration officers who raided an entertainment outlet on Sept 30.

Ali (photo) , the Malay army veterans association president, revealed that he had sent WhatsApp messages to Idris on various matters but never got a reply.

CM should be grateful

"I WhatsApp-ed him over police reports, the immigration officers assault case, and even after I held press conferences. He reads the messages but doesn't reply," Mohd Ali said.

He added that as a son of Malacca, he had a right to help his state and Idris should be grateful for that.

"Idris should not attack me for defending the immigration officers.

"Its not like I've come to create trouble, sell drugs, prostitute girls, sell state land or state secrets," he said.
