Kelantan PAS Youth is considering legal action against the media over reports on the resignation of the party's spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Its chief Zulkafli Yacob said that he has instructed a lawyer to study the news reports and "look at all angles for legal action".

"The reports on his (Nik Aziz's) resignation created a lot of uneasiness among us and general Malaysians. So the media must be held responsible. It was irresponsible for them to report on the matter when there was absolutely no indication made by him.

"I strongly believe that if he had planned to resign he would have informed the state government, state party line-up and the party at the federal level," he added when contacted.

He also believed that Umno Kelantan was responsible for the resignation rumour.

Yesterday, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang dismissed the reports that Nik Aziz, who is also PAS Kelantan commissioner, had resigned from all political posts.

Apart from Utusan Malaysia , which front-paged the news yesterday, and the Star , malaysiakini also reported about the resignation on Tuesday.

According to a Harakahdaily report today, Nik Aziz, who is currently in Mecca to perform his umrah, also denied the speculation and labelled the reports as 'trash'.

Great leader

Meanwhile, Zulkafli said he is convinced that Nik Aziz will fulfill his pledge made before the general election that he will continue leading the state as long as he is alive.

"When he made the pledge, we (Kelantan PAS Youth) had supported it then and we support it now. There is no question that we want him to remain at the apex of the state administration for a long time to come," he added.

He said even if Nik Aziz voluntarily expressesed his wish to resign, he and other state leaders would convince him otherwise.

"We want him to lead us because we believe that he has all the right qualities of a great leader which are very hard to find in others. Anyone else right now will give us little satisfaction," he added.

However, Zulkafli disagreed that this view meant that Kelantan PAS Youth has no confidence in the next generation of party leaders.

"We have confidence in our leaders like the current deputy mentri besar Ahmad Yaacob, exco members like Husam (Musa) ( left ) and Nik (Mohd) Amar (Abdullah) and I believe that the people will continue to support them when they take over from Tuan Guru (Nik Aziz). But I don't think that would be any time soon," he said.

On the question that any plans to resign by Nik Aziz should not come as a surprise given his health condition, Zulkafli said this does not arise as the former has been given a clean bill by his doctors.

"When (former prime minister) Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) first underwent heart surgery no one speculated that he would resign.

"He continued to lead the country for another 12 years. So I think to use the surgery as an excuse to say that he would resign cannot be accepted," he added.

Nik Aziz, 73, had recently undergone treatment for a heart complication.
