PARLIAMENT Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Hasan Arifin said it is not necessary to call Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak over the 1MDB probe.

"Not necessary," he repeated several times when grilled by reporters about whether the PAC will call Najib in their probe.

Pressed further, Hasan quipped: " Jangan lah, saya pun nak cari makan juga (Please don't, I need to earn a living too)."

He then laughed and told reporters, "You don't..." before breaking into laughter again without finishing his sentence.

He said this when told that his predecessor Nur Jazlan Mohamed had stated that if necessary, the committee would call Najib to facilitate its probe.

In a statement later, he said he meant " looking for lunch " instead of making a living.

The Bahasa Malaysia phrase 'cari makan' literally means 'looking for something to eat', but is commonly used to mean 'making a living'.

Meanwhile Hasan reiterated that 1MDB chief executive Arul Kanda Kandasamy and former CEO Shahrol Halmi will appear before the PAC soon.

Arul will be appearing on Dec 1 while Shahrol has been summoned to testify on Nov 25.

Hasan then repeated his argument that the PAC must look into certain legal aspects before they can summon alleged 1MDB advisor Jho Low.
