PAC chief: RM2.6b not linked to 1MDB
The RM2.6 billion transferred into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal account is not related to 1MDB, said Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chief Hasan Arifin.
"I must say that 1MDB, and the RM2.6 billion are entirely different subjects," he told a press conference in Parliament today.
Asked how he came to this conclusion, Hasan said this was in the auditor-general's interim report on 1MDB.
However, previously auditor-general Ambrin Buang said the Auditor-General's Department would not probe the RM2.6 billion, and let Bank Negara investigate it.
The RM2.6 billion, which was transferred before the last general election, has been described as political donation from a Middle Eastern source.
The RM2.6 billion donation was received shortly before the 2013 general election.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating whether there is any corruption involved.
Najib has denied any wrongdoing or using public funds for personal gain.
