PKR Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has filed defamation suits against inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar and Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The duo allegedly linked Nurul Izzah to treasonous acts for meeting self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram in the Philippines.
The suits were filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.
The MP is seeking aggravated and general damages from the two.
"I cannot bear being called a traitor, at a time when I am completely innocent," she told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Court complex lobby.
She repeated her apology for causing offence over the meeting and decried how the issue has been "twisted to such a level".
"I have no choice but to take legal action to clear my name."
She added this is especially urgent given that she could be investigated under security laws Prevention of Terrorism Act 2015 (POTA) and Security Offences and Special Measures Act (Sosma).
Police chief Khalid earlier said that Nurul Izzah is investigated under Sosma and the Penal Code for treason.
Ismail Sabri also urged investigation under POTA for offending the relatives of those who died in the 2013 Lahad Datu incursion.
She will give her statement to police on the matter tomorrow "to show (she) is ready to answer any claim".
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman also tabled a motion to drag Nurul Izzah to the Parliamentary Rights and Priviledges Committee.
Nurul Izzah was represented by fellow PKR vice president and lawyer N Surendran.
Nurul Izzah in her statement earlier admitted meeting with Jacel on Nov 9 while in the Philippines with Batu MP Tian Chua, as part of a PKR delegation's meeting with that country's stakeholders.
BN leaders have been attacking Nurul Izzah incessantly over the incident, which she said she now regrets.
Nurul Izzah has also explained that she only met Jacel at a dinner hosted by the Philippine authorities, at which she and Tian Chua were guests.
Khalid has said Nurul Izzah would be called to give her statement following her action that could threaten national security and peace.
"Even though Nurul Izzah has apologised, her action is still considered serious when a Malaysian parliamentarian meets the country's enemy who invaded a part of our country," he has said.
