DAP sets up another branch in constituency coveted by PAS

The DAP has set up shop in another constituency traditionally contested by PAS, this time in the parliamentary seat of Baling.

The seat is presently held by BN's Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and has changed hands between the ruling coalition and PAS in the general elections, while the DAP had never been in the picture here.

The new DAP Baling branch today came just 10 days after the party set up a branch in Taman Templer in Selangor, a state seat presently held by PAS' Zaidy Abdul Talib.

DAP had clearly said it intended to contest in Taman Templer if Pakatan Harapan permits the move, but did not state its electoral intentions for Baling.

However, the setting up of a DAP branch in Baling today was done concurrently with the creation of a Parti Amanah Negara branch in the same constituency.

"Let 2015 be another historic milestone in Baling, marking not only the formation of DAP and Amanah in Baling, but the beginning of the Pakatan Harapan campaign to win Kedah state government in 14th general election," DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang declared when officiating the launch.

A copy of the speech was distributed to the media.

In his speech, Lim also thanked Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia for getting the DAP veteran suspended from Parliament.

"I must thank Pandikar for my six-month suspension from Parliament which has enabled me to travel up and down the country, and to come to Baling today and later to Lunas and Gua Cempadak, to explain the reasons for the parliamentary injustice of suspending me from Parliament for articulating what is (in) the hearts and minds of all patriotic Malaysian.

"From where the RM2.6 billion in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal banking accounts came from, and to where they have gone to?" he said.

Lim was suspended after Pandikar took issue with the DAP leader’s accusation that the Dewan Rakyat speaker had abused his power.

This was with regards to Pandikar's move to block the Public Accounts Committee from proceeding with the 1MDB probe, pending the appointments to fill several vacancies in the oversight committee.
