As Umno entered the first day of its general assembly, a group of party members filed a report with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on the RM2.6 billion donation issue.

Calling themselves Gabungan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia (GKCM), they urged ROS to probe the status of the donation which is believed not to have been included in the annual financial statements for 2013 and 2014.

"We, from the Telok Kemang Umno branch, have sent a letter to the ROS asking for a probe into the donation.

"The problem is the financial statements for 2013 and 2014 did not mention this," said spokesperson Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman when met at the ROS office in Putrajaya.

The RM2.6 billion was transferred into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s personal bank accounts before the 2013 general election.

Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad had last night also raised the issue during a talk with Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin at the Kelab Sultan Sulaiman in Kampung Baru.

Mahathir said one of the reasons he would be attending this year’s Umno general sssembly was to see whether the donation has been declared by the party’s accounts since it was not included in the previous years' statements.

Kamarul, who together with eight other Teluk Kemang branch leaders recently faced Umno’s disciplinary committee, said the issue should be swiftly resolved in order to quell dissent among the grassroots.

“We did this because we feel that this issue can no longer be dragged on further and it will only further complicate Umno’s already distressed situation,” he noted.

Earlier, Kamarul said their report to the ROS had been received and verified by its director-general Mohammad Razin Abdullah.
