UMNO AGM | A government-issued booklet labelling Bersih rally as racist while lauding the red shirt rally as patriotic was distributed at the Umno general assembly today.

The 105-page booklet, which is filled with colour photographs and titled 'Uprising of the Red Shirts, Sept 16’, is published by Department of Special Affairs (Jasa), a unit under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry.

"The rise of ‘Red Shirt People United Rally’ was a response to the action of some quarters which have repeatedly created chaos and provocation through street rallies," says the booklet.

"It was mobilised by patriots and Malaysians who love peace," it adds.

"The booklet has collated the historical photographs to show our appreciation to the fighters who came forward to defend the Federal Constitution and the nation's peace.”

Meanwhile, Jasa described Bersih rally as “violent, rude, extreme provocation” and lambasted its refusal to observe the law.

"The Bersih participant was rude; he hit and assaulted security officers," says the caption of a photograph showing a plainclothes officer struggling with a yellow-shirt protester.

"Public assets and police vehicles also fell victim (to the Bersih rally)," it adds.

Some of the photographs were taken from the Bersih 3.0 in 2012, where it turned violent after protesters pushed their way into Dataran Merdeka as riot police fired tear gas and chemical-laced water.

It portrayed Bersih 4, a three-day peaceful rally held this year on Oct 28 to 30, as masterminded by “an immoral leader”.

"Bersih was infiltrated by LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community). Bersih 4 had emulated and repeated the May 13 provocation. Why bring along a broom? Was it meant to bring back the racist sentiments of the past?" it asks.

"Highest appreciation to everyone who was involved in the red- shirt rally and endless gratitute to Bernama , which contributed the valuable photographs for the publication of this booklet," it says

The Sept 16 rally, which was held to counter the Bersih 4 gathering, has the tacit support of top Umno leaders.

The Jasa booklet was distributed to Umno delegates and members who are participating in the ruling party’s annual general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).

"(Red shirt rally participants) were not racists, but do not challenge (us)," it warned.

"Do not insult the Malay royalty, we will definitely defend (it). We will uphold the privileges of Malays and bumiputera as stipulated in Article 153 of the Federal Consitution," it said.

Their love for the country was pure, the national flags were raised with decocum without stepping on anyone's portrait, it added.

"The red-shirt rally was nothing like the Bersih rally which destroyed public assets. It (red shirt) did not disturb the businessmen, particularly those along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman," said the booklet.

"We defend Bahasa Malaysia. The act of DAP Kuching parliamentarian ( Chong Chieng Jen) to speak English in Parliament (during Budget 2016 debate) was an insult to the Federal Constitution," it said.

The booklet warned DAP to stop its provocation on matters related to religion and race.

"We defended the government which was elected through the democratic process of the general election."

Another booklet titled '1MDB: who said not answered ?' (1MDB: Siapa Kata Tidak Dijawab ?) was also distributed to Umno members at the general assemblies of Umno Youth, Wanita and Puteri yesterday.

"In the quest to find out and prove the truth following the false accusation, the prime minister had taken courageous measures to appoint the National Audit Department to conduct a thorough research on 1MDB," read the booklet.

"The interim audit report did not find any criminal element in the 1MDB as accused by Sarawak Report and The Edge ," it said.

"In August, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has cleared 1MDB of wrongdoing, especially related to the accusation that RM2.6 billion was chanelled into the prime minister's accounts from 1MDB," it read, adding that 1MDB will continue to cooperate with various agencies which are investing in the state-owned firm.
