PAS will field a non-Muslim as a candidate for the first time in the upcoming Sarawak state elections, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.

The non-Muslim candidate will be from their supporters' wing, he added.

However, he said that the party has yet to finalise their candidates for the Sarawak elections as they have yet to send the names to the syura council.

"Sarawak PAS will submit their list of candidates to the syura council and it will be decided by the council," he said in a press conference at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today, which was also attended by Sarawak PAS commissioner Jofri Jaraiee.

According to party leaders, PAS will announce their candidates for the 11 seats they plan to contest on March 12 in another event in Sarawak, Tuan Ibrahim said.

There are still one or two seats which are also claimed by opposition party PKR, he said, but stressed that they will discuss with PKR.

For the opposition to have a real chance of winning, they will need to ensure a one-on-one fight against the ruling BN.
