There are no laws where Umno is concerned
YOURSAY ‘Annuar Musa is correct. Umno politicians want billions in ‘donations’ nowadays.’
Annuar Musa: RM2.6b 'not a big sum' for one general election
Anonymous #19098644:
Umno information chief Annuar Musa is either ignorant, misguided or deliberately trying to spin another lie.
The law is clear: the maximum amount that can be spent for an election to a parliamentary and a state constituency is RM200,000 and RM100,000, respectively.
As there are only 222 parliamentary seats, the maximum that any party can spend - assuming a party contests each and every seat - is RM44 million. This RM2.6 billion is 59 times more than the permissible amount!
That means Umno is guilty of breaching the election law, and has committed an offence. Or in simpler language, Umno has committed a corrupt act.
Behsaikong: These people really have no shame, do they? Nothing shames them.
Far from being embarrassed, these people have no qualms about such an enormous sum of money having been deposited into their leader's personal bank account. They see no reason why they can't do such things, and can say so upfront in a newspaper interview.
People who aren't embarrassed and have no notion of shame shouldn't be voted into office. Those who voted for them should carry some blame, too. If the threshold of accountability is so low, what hope can our country have under such people?
Had even just RM2.6 million (not billion) been found in the personal bank accounts of former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang or Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu before a general election, would any one of us be surprised by a big fuss and noise publicly raised about this?
If this is not an issue, then come GE14 the same thing could happen and those involved would have nothing to worry about - since the precedence has already been set.
There would be no case for them to answer.
SusahKes: Firstly, the money wasn't a "donation"; it was more for "investment" . That was what the Saudi Arabian foreign minister told The New York Times .
Secondly, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak returned US$620 million back to the "donor". So, what did he do with the balance? We have an idea where some of it might have gone to.
However, since it is now confirmed that it was for an “investment”, then what conditions had been attached for this investment?
What were the returns promised, since every investment would look to bear returns? And what is the payback period for the balance of the capital invested (i.e. the US$61 million)?
Or are you now implying that the Saudis had simply wanted to invest in our general election? If so, isn't that tantamount to interfering with the sovereignty of this country?
Your move, pal. But let's just be assured of one thing: whatever Umno-BN and its public relations bunch spews, no one is buying it.
And the more attempts are made at "explaining", the more it looks like ‘the boy with his hand inside the cookie jar’ type of rationalising.
Odin Tajué: Well, if only you had been aware of even a bit of what had happened around the world, you would have known that during the last US presidential election, Barack Obama had spent less than half the amount that was transferred into Najib's bank account.
And that country is 10 times the size of Malaysia in terms of acreage and population!
Negarawan: Annuar Musa is correct. Umno politicians want billions in "donations" nowadays.
Fifty years ago, perhaps it would have sufficed for Umno politicians to get thousands in "donations". As time went by, that figure was not enough to satisfy their lust for money.
And "donations" had to become much larger, expanding into the millions and finally arriving at the billion figure today. Perhaps, in the future, they will need trillions.
Headhunter: If I were one of these politicians, the lesser said the better, as far as 1MBD is concerned.
Everyone, including those outside the country, does not believe one little bit of the tall tales that have been spun out. It's too fantastic, even for a fairy tale.
So, unless you want to be laughed at - or worse, being thought as a mindless sycophant - it's better to keep your mouth shut.
The Mask: You hypocrites! I remember that hell broke loose when the opposition was accused of receiving money for previous elections.
Now, when your own boss is a recipient, you say there is no law. You people just make me puke.
N1: All these BN politicians keep shooting their own foot by contradicting the stories they have created. Only idiots will continue to believe in what they said.
Bumiputeri: Dr Mahathir - who is the longest-serving PM - has said that it is too much money for a general election.
This newly-appointed Annuar Musa said it is not enough. It is easy to know who is telling the truth.
