Spurned lover PAS attempting a quick rebound

YOURSAY | 'Hopefully PAS and Ikatan don’t become a spent force before GE14.'

PAS joins hands with Ikatan to form third force

6th Generation Immigrant: This appears more of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's personal exercise, hyped up to appear grand and impactful. However, it looks more like PAS is a spurned lover on a quick rebound just to prove a point to its ex-lover(s).

PAS was booted out of Pakatan. It subseqeuntly lost many technocrats and moderates to Amanah. It then sent confusing signals on forming a pact, first with PKR and later Umno.

Its ulama members, Youth leader Nik Abduh Nik Aziz, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Hadi are all sending out confusing and uncoordinated statements. Many were not even aware about this Ikatan tie-up.

Am I the only one seeing that PAS is hanging by a thread from sliding down the slippery slope to non-existence?

Mafeeah: I will tell you what will happen soon. Ikatan president Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir will walk away and will likely go back to Umno. And PAS will be staring at the sky once again hoping that God will tell them why.

Sleepy: You can align with anybody and call it "third force" but most - like me - have already made their choice and this force will not sway me one bit.

Hopefully, it doesn't become a spent force before GE14.

Rightan: This tie-up shows PAS now realises a multiracial platform is important for its vote bank. But it is too late now. You wouldn't want to get bitten twice, would you?

Spinnot: It looks like the mission of the PAS-Ikatan "new opposition bloc" is to split the opposition votes for the benefit of PAS' secret lover, Umno.

Kawak: Can we trust Abdul Kadir? He denied any knowledge of this link-up a few days ago. And is Ikatan a multiracial party?

Wg321: Party Ikatan? Never heard of this party. Where did it come from?

Fair Play: I love it, I just love it. The Indian community has been broken up into splinter groups. Now the majority community might be following suit soon.

And who knows, the leaner and more accommodative new Umno group might join forces with DAP and Harapan to become the next 'Tai Kor'.

As for MIC, Gerakan and MCA, their epitaph might read as follows - just gone, but already long forgotten. There is hope yet.

Jalmk: "The party (Ikatan) aims to champion the ideas of the nation’s first prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman."

And Tunku once said: "All talk on Islamic states is just an empty dream. No man in his right sense would accept a nation which bases its political administration on religion, and in a country like Malaysia with its multiracial and multi-religious people, there is no room for an Islamic state."

So how can Ikatan work with PAS if it really champions Tunku's vision of a multiracial and multi-religious country? Are Ikatan and PAS going to work on a "agree to disagree" platform on the issues related to an Islamic state and hudud?

Pakatan Rakyat had tried this formula and failed. Let us make this point clear: PAS can never ever work with a multiracial party unless it changes its constitution and gets rid of Hadi and its Ulama wing.

Not Smart: The only thing new is that Hadi is not sporting a turban. Is he hoping that a change in appearance can make a strong third force? It is not the outside that matters but the inside.

In this case, the inside has been all made known to the masses by his own doing. It is the same wine in a new bottle.

Just_A_Rakyat: Ikatan who? It's a non-entity and PAS is grasping at straws to remain relevant. Is this even news?

Headhunter: This will end up another "also-ran" grouping like SNAP or STAR of Sarawak. There is no fire in them, this uninspiring and ragtag bunch of losers.

What are they supposed to represent? Where's the beef? With that dinosaur Hadi on board, it is bound to fail.

SusahKes: You already can't trust these chaps, can't you? Just a few days ago, Kadir denied forming such a pact with PAS. Great way to begin the third force.

Hamzah Paiman: PAS, why not be multiracial yourself? Call yourself Islamic but want to remain a racist party. Did Islam teach us to be racist? It’s only for votes that you are collaborating with a multiracial party.

Korkor: At least out of the misery of 1MDB and other monetary and corruption issues, come these jokers to give us a little breather. Thanks, PAS, but no thanks.

Fair&Just: Truly and verily the phrase: Birds of a feather, flock together.

JomUbahUbah: All Malaysians will definitely not vote for these two parties. PAS has influence only in Kelantan, and Ikatan will vanish from Malaysia after the 14th GE.

Ian2003: Third Force? More like Third Farce.
