Under fire after an attempt to remove Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, Kijal assemblyperson Ahmad Said today confirmed that the allocation for his Kijal constituency has been withheld.

“Yes it is true. But I don’t want to comment further.

“I will hold a press conference next week,” Ahmad, the former menteri besar, told Malaysiakini when contacted.

He said this in response to Razif who had reportedly said he has taken over the allocation which was previously managed by Ahmad.

Sinar Harian quoted Razif, who is also Terengganu Umno liaison chief, as saying that the decision was made because Ahmad no longer portrays the image of a government elected lawmaker.

“We have stopped it (the allocation) from being managed by the state-assemblyperson (Ahmad) but the allocation is still being channelled as usual, just that it is now under the menteri besar’s office.

“We (state government) view the action (by Ahmad) as being not reflective of a government state-assemblyperson so that is why I, as a leader of the current government, have taken over (the allocation),” Razif reportedly said at an event in Terengganu yesterday.

Ahmad had on March 8 tabled a vote of no-confidence against Razif in the Terengganu state-assembly but speaker Mohd Zubir Embong had rejected the motion.

He had tabled the motion under Article 14(6) of the state constitution which allows for a motion of no-confidence against the menteri besar.

Zubir, however, said that the speaker's consent was required if the 14-day notice was to be waived.

Ahmad was removed as Terengganu menteri besar and replaced with Razif in 2014.

This prompted him and two other Umno representatives to leave the party sparking off a crisis in the state.

The crisis ended two days later when Ahmad rejoined Umno after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak apologised for removing him so close to his daughter's wedding.
