Here’s a recap of major headlines yesterday you may have missed.

Global probe on 1MDB widens

While Malaysian authorities declared the 1MDB case closed, there were new developments on investigations into the Malaysian state fund in at least three countries.

In the US, the FBI zoomed in on Red Granite Pictures , a production company owned by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's stepson Riza Aziz, said to have received US$155 million from 1MDB.

In UAE, authorities imposed a travel ban on two former executives of IPIC, which had extensive dealings with 1MDB, and also froze their assets.

And in Luxembourg, the outcome of investigations there may indirectly shed light on whether the multi-billion deposits Najib received were really a donation or from 1MDB.

Dr M getting fond of street protests

Dr Mahathir Mohamad may have cracked down on street rallies when he was prime minister but the 90-year-old joined some 2,000 demonstrators in Kuala Lumpur yesterday to protest against the GST , and also to call for Najib's ouster.

The protest was largely peaceful but one person was arrested for sticking a caricature of Najib on a police car.

Prior to taking to the streets, Mahathir in a blog post called for the Saudi prince who supposedly pledged billions in ringgit in "gifts" to the prime minister to come out and explain his wealth .

Federal minister Nazri Abdul Aziz believed that Mahathi’s tirade against Najib was simply because he’s angry there's finally a prime minister he couldn't remove .

Najib's former political secretary also shared that the prime minister was someone who was prepared to play hardball and will not be easily unseated.

Renewed kidnappings hit Sabah

There is no end in sight to kidnappings in Sabah as yet another four Malaysians were taken from their ship off the coast of Semporna.

PKR's Penampang MP Darell Leiking called for drastic measures, including issuing a shoot-to-kill order against abductors.

Other Kini bites

Umno will discuss sacking its suspended deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin at its next supreme council meeting, which date has yet to be fixed.

Police completed its probe into Phang Li Koon's sale of her bungalow to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng at below market price.

Anti-highway protesters questioned PKR's silence on tolled highways in Selangor.

PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, stopped from entering by Sarawak immigration, managed to talk his way back into the state.

Looking ahead

The activist who was arrested at the anti-GST rally yesterday for allegedly pasting a caricature sticker of Najib on a police car is expected to be remanded this morning.
