The High Court in Kuala Lumpur today struck out controversial carpet businessman Deepak Jaikishan’s multi-billion ringgit suit against former Bank Rakyat chairperson Sabaruddin Chik, who was formerly also culture and tourism minister.

The matter was fixed for trial today but Deepak, as the plaintiff, failed to appear.

As a result, Judicial Commissioner Roslan Abu Bakar struck out the suit and made no order as to costs.

Deepak filed the suit following remarks by Sabaruddin ( photo below ) about him allegedly being unable to pay loans with Bank Rakyat and reportedly there was a book on the matter.

The book titled 'Membongkar Skandal Deepak & Bank Rakyat - dari hati Sabaruddin Chik', was considered defamatory to Deepak.

Deepak, who is director in 50 companies, had said the book claimed he had conspired with the then domestic trade, consumer affairs and cooperatives minister, the prime minister or his wife or the Bank Rakyat directors to get a loan, that he is untrustworthy, that no one could have business with him and that he is controversial entrepreneur.

The book also implied that he has a scandal, painting a picture that he is a criminal, corrupt and untrustworthy.

Previously, it was reported that the matter would go through mediation .

However, it failed, resulting in today's hearing where Deepak was supposed to testify.

Sabaruddin is represented by Adnan Seman @ Abdullah while lawyer AK Sharma appeared for Deepak.
