'Trying to win by barring DAP leaders an insult to S'wak voters'

DAP's Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong said it was an insult to Sarawak voters to think that BN can turn the tide of the election simply by barring a few DAP leaders.

Liew said this in a recorded video message after being deported from Sarawak on arrival this afternoon.

"It is an insult to Sarawakian voters thinking that without some of us to campaign there, SUPP will and can win again.

"That's foolish to think this way," he said.

DAP is planning to contest in more indigenous seats in the May 7 state election but its core seats remains in Chinese-majority areas where SUPP is the main rival.

Liew said the DAP's strategy had changed compared to the last Sarawak election.

"It is as if fighting the last war. Because in the last state election, Anthony Loke, Tony Pua, myself, Teo Nie Ching - we played a role in the last election.

"But we are not playing the same role as we played in the last election and there are many more people within the DAP," he said.

Liew said his and the deportation of other opposition leaders was a gross abuse of power by Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem and urged Sarawakians to reject such a government.

"I urge the people of Sarawak to reject SUPP, to reject a government that play on fear and not actually campaigning in an election fairly" he said.

More than 30 opposition leaders and activists have been banned from Sarawak ahead of the state election.

A handful of pro-government leaders have also been barred from Sarawak, including red-shirts movement chief Jamal Md Yunos.
