Nothing will come out of the Save Malaysia group's one million signatures on their Citizens' Declaration, said deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"In any law, there is no such thing that with one million signatures, any legal action or moral obligation has to take place," Ahmad Zahid said in a press conference after attending the Home Ministry Family Day held in Cheras today.

However, he added that the group can submit the signatures to whomever they like, as it is their effort.

Yesterday, the Save Malaysia group announced that they had managed to gather 1.27 million signatures on their Citizens' Declaration and will be presenting them to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong as soon as possible.

The declaration calls for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation as well as for institutional reforms.

Najib had been embroiled in several scandals involving his brainchild 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion found deposited in his personal bank accounts.

The group had initially intended to gather one million signatures by the end of this year but had achieved the target within two months, revealed former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

They had also checked all the signatures to ensure they were genuine and had rejected those that were improperly filled out, he added.

He explained this was done so that no one can doubt their efforts.
