PM praises racial, party composition in Adenan's cabinet as 'fair'

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today praised Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem's new cabinet as being just and fair in terms of racial and party composition.

This after Adenan announced yesterday his new lineup including the addition of two extra deputy chief ministers.

"Based on the appointments and choices, I see that the composition in terms of race and party was just and fair, representing all stakeholders.

"Congratulations to Douglas Uggah Embas, James Jemut Masing and Abang Johari Openg on their appointments as deputy chief ministers," Najib (photo) said in a blog posting tonight.

Adenan's lineup has generated controversy in the absence of a Chinese deputy chief minister after he supposedly promised to do so.

Malaysiakini which reviewed the recording when Adenan purportedly made the promise, found that he was not accurately quoted.

Adenan had made reference to Chinese representation in the Sarawak government instead of a Chinese deputy chief minister.

However, no correction was made throughout the campaign period, leading to some voters to believe that there may be a Chinese deputy chief minister.

Najib said he was confident the new lineup will serve with sincerity to fulfil BN's promises after a thumping victory in the May 7 election.

The new lineup comprises seven ministers from PBB, including Adenan himself, and one each from PRS, SUPP, UPP and SPDP.
