Parti Amanah Negara has slammed PAS for threatening to quit from the Selangor government if Pakatan Harapan insists on contesting  in the coming by-elections for Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.

"Amanah sees the PAS threat to exit from the Selangor government if Harapan were to stand in either the Sungai Besar or Kuala Kangsar by-elections as disgraceful act and dishonest," Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said today.

"The voters did not just choose PAS candidates, for PAS still part of Pakatan Rakyat in 2013, so it cannot use its victories (in Selangor) to threaten its former allies to achieve what it wants," Khalid said.

"The priority should be the rakyat," he said at a press conference at Parliament lobby.

"Amanah urges PAS to act with a sense of responsibility and trust for the voters and not to betray the voters' trust," Khalid added.

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has said he will meet with Amanah leaders to discuss candidates for the by-election.

A source told Malaysiakini that the meeting is expected to take place later today following the menteri besar's reported ultimatum to the three PAS state executive councillors in Selangor.

Quoting sources, The Star reported that Azmin has asked the PAS state exco members to resign by Monday if their party insisted on contesting the Sungai Besar by-election, instead of allowing a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan and BN.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is reported to have told the party’s three exco members in Selangor not to quit, but to be prepared to be expelled.
