PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz has denied a major purge within the party, according to reports.

According to Sinar Harian yesterday, he denied any major crisis in the party presently, such as what had happened after the last muktamar that led to the departure of progressive leaders to form Parti Amanah Negara.

“Therefore we cannot say there is a major purge. Just the usual cleanup.

“I myself, as well as other leaders have said earlier on, if you are unsatisfied with PAS, we can settle it amicably,” he was reported saying after officiating the Federal Territories PAS Youth muktamar yesterday.

“Those who are unhappy with PAS can leave, there is no need for us to sack them and they can join other parties.

“Whether they want to remain active (in politics) is up to them.

“(But) for those who are stubborn, we have to sack them,” he was reported saying.

While he did not mention any names, he is likely referring to former PAS vice-president Husam Musa, who was sacked two weeks ago after months of being at odds with the Islamic party.

Last Thursay, Husam alleged trouble in PAS-led Kelantan with a movement to topple the menteri besar and a purported bid to form a new state government.

Before his sacking, Husam was also publicly critical of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and of the Kelantan government, which among others, he had raised issues of illegal logging.

The Salor assemblyperson has indicated he intends to appeal his sacking, and has not committed to joining any other party for now.

‘Many staying as PAS better’

Meanwhile Nik Abduh said there are those who would leave PAS and those who stay.

He said disgruntled members eventually stay on because they are “patient to see that in the end, PAS is better”, reported Sinar.

Commenting on the upcoming party muktamar, he said this year is expected to be more orderly.

“For sure those on stage will be criticised. Including me, but we do not try to block this. They are free to voice their opinions,” he added.
