Former PAS vice-president Husam Musa says there is a movement to topple the Kelantan menteri besar in a bid to form a new state government.

In his first public event following his sacking from PAS, Husam, who is Salor assemblyperson, said the Kelantan BN assemblypersons have agreed to sign statutory declarations to say they have lost confidence in the leadership of Menteri Besar Ahmad Yaakob.

“In the past two or three months, the BN assemblylpersons have agreed to sign a statutory declaration with the aim of toppling Ahmad Yaakob, with support of several (PAS) assemblypersons who have ties to me, but the aim is only to topple the MB.

“The person who will replace the MB will be decided by the person who is leading the movement. But I believe there will be BN assemblypersons who will deny this,” Husam said at an event in Kuala Lumpur last night.

He also did not reveal who is the leader of this movement to topple the MB.

Husam said he had met with those who are part of the movement, but is opposed to it on principle.

“The assemblyperson wanted to show me the statutory declaration, but I rejected it on principle.

“So today, Ahmad (on the right in photo) is still the MB. Don’t worry. I suggest that they also forget any intention to call for a vote of no confidence,” he said.

PAS has a super-majority of 31 out of 45 seats in the state Legislative Assembly. PKR has one seat, while BN has 12.

Husam said such political manoeuvres would not bode well with the people, especially if it could lead to a political crisis, like that in 1977.

He said if the people want a change of government, they can do so in the general election.

“If they want to revive it (a government  like that of former MB Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat), it is better to do so in the general election,” said Husam, who was part of the late PAS spiritual leader’s state cabinet.

'Sacking unjust'

Husam was last Friday sacked from PAS, following his criticism of PAS president  Abdul Hadi Awang, and for claiming that PAS had wanted to work with Umno.

Touching on this yesterday, he said he cannot yet announce which party he will join as he still has hopes that the sacking will be overturned. He has 40 days to appeal the sacking.

He will also writte a letter to the PAS president on his sacking, to say that it was not fair and wants an explanation on the allegations made against him.

“I am confident that PAS is a democratic party which is rooted in the Islamic concept of justice, so I will write to the president to state that my sacking is unjust.

“The PAS central committee has the power to overturn the disciplinary committee’s decision, because the disciplinary committee has vested interest (in the matter) and did not even call me to testify. The proceedings are flawed,” Husam added.

On May 6, PAS disciplinary committee chairperson Sanusi Daeng Mariok announced the committee’s decision to sack Husam, which was made at its meeting on April 23.

This is based on article 82(6)(D) of the party constitution, Sanusi said.
