Former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir claims 50 Kedah branches have put up motions of no confidence against party chief Najib Razak at their respective AGMs, saying there may be more.

Mukhriz, who is son of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, posted a list of branches on his Facebook today who have purportedly put up the motion that also requests for the party elections to be held this year.

“There may be other branches that have made a similar motion but which is not reported.

“They (party leaders) would definitely say the number of branches may not be significant compared to the total number in Kedah.

“But never before in our history has such a motion been passed by so many Umno branches.

“For the sake of democracy in Umno, this is the members’ right to voice their feelings about the crisis that has hit our country,” wrote the embattled Umno leader.

Mukhriz said that he also expect sabotage to be mounted against branches who have tabled the no-confidence motion or are planning to do so.

"That is what we expect them to do," he wrote in the same posting.

The former Kedah MB congratulated the branches for their courage and hope that they will continue to fight to save Malaysia from oppression.

Out of the list of branches, 29 are from Muhkriz's political support base Jerlun, while 11 are from his father’s former stronghold of Kubang Pasu.

Others include those from Kuala Kedah, Pendang and Baling.

Mukhriz, along with party deputy Muhyiddin Yassin, is facing possible disciplinary action for being critical of the party leadership, in particular Najib.
