Ex-MB: Polls in K Kangsar 'divine intervention' to punish Najib and Zahid

K KANGSAR POLLS If things are viewed in a straightforward manner, the Kuala Kangsar by-election is being held following the untimely death of its incumbent Member of Parliament Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad.

But for former Perak menteri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, there must have been a particular reason, or rather, a divine intervention of sorts why the by-election is being held.

Speaking at a ceramah session in Kg Sayong Lembah, Kuala Kangsar last night, the Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) leader said he had wondered the reasons why Allah chose to have by-elections held at Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar from the 222 parliamentary seats that the country has.

“Why didn't (seats) from Malacca, Kedah, Negri Sembilan or Johor chosen, why choose Kuala Kangsar, the royal town.

“When I thought about it deeply, I realised that this is the place where I was given the trust to be the Perak menteri besar from March 2008 to February 2009.

“This is the place where those two beings came and seized the Pakatan Rakyat government which I had led. Who were those two beings? None other than (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak) and Deputy Prime Minister (Ahmad) Zahid (Hamidi),” thundered Nizar.

In doing so, Nizar said, Najib and Zahid did not respect the rights of the people of Perak who had chosen the then Pakatan government.

“(It is because of) their kebiadapan (rudeness) in seizing the Perak government here in Kuala Kangsar and so Allah decided that this place would have a by-election.

“This is so that the people of Kuala Kangsar can ‘teach’ Najib and Zahid - that they were kurang ajar (disrespectful) to the people’s choice, that they were unjust to the people of Perak, especially here in Kuala Kangsar.”

'People of Kuala Kangsar will teach them'

And so Nizar believes that this is where the people of Kuala Kangsar would teach the country’s current top two leaders.

“In that they represent Malaysia's 30 million citizens, that they no longer want Najib, Zahid nor the BN government,” he added.

Nizar therefore urged the local people to reject any candidate who had anything to do with BN and instead support Amanah.

Amanah’s Ahmad Termizi Ramli is facing BN’s Mastura Mohd Yazid who is defending her late husband’s seat. Apart from Mastura, Termizi also faces Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad of PAS and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.

BN snatched the Perak state government from Pakatan Rakyat in 2009, after the then Perak ruler, Sultan Azlan Shah, refused Nizar’s request to dissolve the House.

Nizar was forced to make the request after three assemblypersons - two from PKR and one form DAP - quit their parties to become BN-friendly independent representatives.

The late Sultan Azlan cited the Perak constitution to say that based on his discretion, Nizar no longer enjoyed the confidence of the House following the defections.

Nizar took the matter to court but in February 2010, the Federal Court ruled that incumbent Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir was indeed the lawful menteri besar, having been appointed after BN commanded a majority in the assembly.
