Dr Mahathir Mohamad's actions speak for itself on whether the former premier has betrayed the Malay people said an Umno minister.

In particular, Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Mahathir was now linking arms with DAP, which is known for championing a 'Malaysian Malaysia' and religious pluralism.

"I don't want to (comment), but if he's with Lim Guan Eng and Lim Kit Siang, that speaks for itself.

"If he's with a group that wants to reject Malay special rights, Islam and so on, that answers for itself," Ismail said.

He said this when asked if Mahathir's comments that Malays were blindly following Umno showed that Mahathir was betraying Malays.

Speaking to reporters in Sungai Besar today, Ismail said people should also not get offended if Umno attacked Mahathir.

This is because the former premier was now no different from opposition members since he quit Umno, he said.

"If we can attack the opposition then we can attack him."

Meanwhile in Kuala Kangsar, Umno supreme council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan said he had reached a stage where anger towards Mahathir had turned to pity.

"I don't have the energy to be angry at him anymore, I just pity Mahathir.

"We are at a stage where we can't be angry and only feel sad to see a statesman make a 180 degree turn by supporting the opposition," Rahman said.

He says the only thing left to do now was to wait for Mahathir to return to Umno, without any conditions.
