Mahathir to make second appearance

11.59PM: Kuala Kangsar – After his initial visit to Kuala Kangsar, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will make a second appearance, says Perak DAP.

He will first visit Kampung Melayu Manong in the morning and later enter Kampung Baru Jerlun, a place that bears the same name as the Jerlun parliamentary constituency once held by his son, Mukhriz.

In a statement, Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming urges the villagers in Kampung Baru Jerlun to be fully mobilised to make the event the biggest assembly in history.

He calls on both MCA and Gerakan members to rise above party lines and take part in the event as the Save Malaysia movement should unite all people, regardless of their political affiliation.

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali is set to campaign in Kuala Kangsar tomorrow, says Nga.

No matter what, Najib must go, says Amanah lawmaker

11.50pm: Manong, Kuala Kangsar - Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) lawmaker Hatta Ramli stresses that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak must go and there are no two ways about it.

Admitting that there are critics who say that Najib’s deputy, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, could be worse, Hatta however says that Najib is ‘bad enough’ that he must be replaced.

“If the person who replaces him is as bad then we must ensure that he gets removed, too,” says Hatta in a ceramah session organised by Pakatan Harapan here tonight.

“Najib must go – if the person who replaces him wants to be prime minister for a long time then he should not repeat Najib’s mistakes," he says.

Citing the 1MDB scandal, Hatta says Zahid or whoever replaces Najib must rectify the problems surrounding the issue.

“He has to bring those responsible to justice and this includes Najib as well as (businessman) Low Taek Jho.

“If the new prime minister does not do that, he, too, will be removed by the rakyat,” says Hatta, who is also Amanah elections director.

‘Mat Sabu must explain hudud statement himself’

10PM: Kampung Baru Jerlun - MCA Wanita chief Heng Seai Kie wants Amanah president Mohamad Sabu himself to explain if his 'hudud makes people happy' statement was a misquote.

"Has he come out and explained? No, he hasn't. He should explain to the dailies. It is irresponsible to have someone explain on your behalf," she slams.

Heng was asked to comment on her party allegedly using a Chinese daily's misquoted sentence against Amanah and Mohamad Sabu.

He was alleged to have said hudud made the people happy. However it was also reported that he said good governance was more important than implementing Islamic law.

PKR Teja state assemblyperson Chang Lih Kang had condemned the daily for misleading the readers by taking the statement out of context.

MCA’s election machinery is going all out against DAP, PAS and Amanah, and has been using his alleged statement to woo Chinese votes.

Six from Amanah switch to support BN's Budiman

9.30PM: Sg Haji Dorani, Sg Besar - Six Amanah members are no longer supporting party candidate Azhar Shukur, and are now backing BN hopeful Budiman Mohd Zohdi.

Group spokesperson Mohd Sapigni Tulus claims he has 32 Amanah members with him, who are unhappy that Azhar is a parachute candidate.

"Azhar is not a Sungai Besar native... The best candidate to represent all us is Budiman, who has a proven track record," Sapigni says.

He added they have not quit the party, but says they're not afraid to quit.

Mohd Sapigni says he was a funder who helped found Amanah.

He adds he was previously a 30-year-long Umno member, who quit the ruling Malay party three years ago.

Khairy unfazed over Azmin's first campaign appearance

7.30PM: Sekinchan – “Maybe he came because I said he didn't come,” Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin says today just before breaking fast at Kampug Sungai Leman in Sekinchan.

Khairy was referring to Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, who earlier today said that it was not necessary for him to be in Sungai Besar all the time during the by-election campaign.

"Maybe he's saying that as an excuse for his solitary programme in Sungai Besar today.

"I believe it is his first since nomination day," says the Umno Youth chief in response to the PKR deputy president's remarks in his own speech in Sungai Besar.

Azmin also directed his remarks towards Khairy's previous claim that his prior absence was a sign of PKR's lack of commitment in supporting Amanah's candidate.

Khairy, however, expresses surprise at Azmin's response.

"Really? It has been the practise of both BN and the opposition to be on the ground all the time during by-elections.”

At the breaking-fast function, Khairy also hands over assistance in the form of rice and groceries.

Some surveys show Amanah leading PAS but behind BN, claims Khalid

4pm: Sungai Besar - According to some surveys, Amanah is now leading PAS but behind BN in the Sungai Besar by-election, claims its communication director Khalid Samad.

He says Amanah will work hard for the rest of the campaign period to increase the voter turnout rate.

"Some surveys show that we can get 52 percent support rate but some show BN leading with 60 percent support rate.

"In conclusion, BN and Amanah are currently the number one and number two for this by-election here. PAS' support rate is lower than us.

"We will make sure voters who work outside Sungai Besar come back home to vote," says Khalid in a press conference today.

He stresses that Amanah is not aiming to beat PAS but wants to win against BN.

"We want to beat BN, not PAS.

"One survey also shows that we have better support in Sungai Besar than in Kuala Kangsar," says Khalid.

He adds that Amanah may hold a press conference tomorrow to make an announcement on several Umno members joining Amanah.

'Don't tell my mum I played snooker with you,' Budiman tells youths

3pm: Pusat Giat Mara, Sekinchan - BN's Sungai Besar candidate Budiman Mohd Zohdi spends time with students at the Giat Mara institution in Sekinchan.

"These are my young friends who plays futsal wth me. We also hang out, we play snooker.

"Don't tell my mother we play snooker together," he jokes.

Budiman says that when hanging out with them, their main question would always be, "Bang, ada kerja tak?" (Bro, do you think we'll get a job?)

Budiman spends about 20 minutes talking and joking with them, but his main goal is to motivate them to find good jobs after graduation.

He encourages them to find someone who would inspire them to achieve their dreams.

"Don't aspire to be Safee Sali (footballer) but you go and hang Aaron Aziz's (actor) poster," he says.

Budiman inquires about the ambitions of several students, asking who they want to be, and one tells of wanting to be a "good person".

At the end of the visit, Budiman distributes his third self-help book "Mesti Dapat Kerja" (Must Get A Job).

He says in jest that if they graduate and do not come back to contribute to their hometowns, they will have to personally answer to him.

EC takes down DAP rep's 'balik undi' billboards

11.30am: IPD Sabak Bernam, Sg Besar - Election Commission chief Hashim Abdullah says DAP Sekinchan assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim's balik undi (come back and vote) billboards should be taken down.

"By right, they should be taken down," he says when asked about the billboards.

According to Hashim, this is because the Election Act states that only candidates, the parties contesting, and party leaders can have campaign material put up.

There are at least two billboards bearing only Ng's image, urging voters to come back and vote in Sekinchan.

Amanah candidate insists no bad blood with younger brother from PAS

10.45am: Amanah headquarters in Kuala Kangsar - Amanah’s Kuala Kangsar by-election candidate Ahmad Termizi Ramli today insists that relations between him and his youngest brother - Kuala Kangsar PAS Youth chief Dzorif Ramli - are nothing if not fine.

Termizi says the two had bumped into each other once during the campaign period, while Dzorif was giving a ceramah and Termizi was distributing flyers.

Asked on Dzorif’s response when Termizi was first chosen as Amanah’s candidate for the by-election, Termizi says his brother had no problems about it.

“All my family members were formerly in PAS, but all have changed to orange (Amanah’s colour), except for him (Dzorif).

“But it’s okay, that's his right and we respect it,” says Termizi at a press conference in Kuala Kangsar today.

He also reveals his promises should he be elected as the new lawmaker for the constituency.

Among these, Termizi says that he will ensure the government fulfils its promise in building the Manong bridge as well as the upgrading of the royal town’s hospital.

“I will ensure that there will be more job opportunities and I will demand that more training centres be built in Manong,” says Termizi, reading out his demands.

PAS candidate has no problem with Azmin

9am: Police headquarters, Kuala Kangsar - PAS Kuala Kangsar candidate Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad does not see Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali’s campaign for the Amanah candidate as affecting her.

“This is up to him, I have no problem. This is his right to choose who he wants,” she says.

PAS has yet to make a decision on its relationship with PKR, says the Perak PAS Wanita chief.

“We are in Perak, Azmin is in Selangor. For me, Azmin has influence in Selangor and Sungai Besar, but he is less influential in Perak,” Najiha says when asked about Azmin campaigning for Amanah.

With three more days to go before polling, she says she can win the seat with a slim majority.

Azmin to bolster campaign

740am: Kuala Lumpur - PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin says that Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali will be heading to Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar to help campaign for the Pakatan Harapan candidates.

Azmin will be in Sungai Besar today and on Friday, and he will head to Kuala Kangsar on Thursday to help bolster the campaign for the two Pakatan Harapan candidates, he says in a statement today.

This is despite Azmin's busy schedule as the MB, Shamsul adds, and that he has to accompany the Selangor sultan to meet with the rakyat throughout the Ramadan month.

Shamsul stresses that Azmin, as well as PKR, remains fully committed to fighting to ensure the Pakatan Harapan candidates win in both the by-elections.
