If convicted Guan Eng is a martyr, if acquitted he’s a hero

YOURSAY | ‘Either way, Umno-BN has already lost even before the trial begins.’

I will die standing than live on my knees, says Guan Eng

Anonymous123456789: Penang CM Lim Guan Eng, everyone who reads independent news reports knows the truth.

You're being framed for political expediency. Then again, such underhand tactics against opposition leaders are the order of the day.

But die standing or not will not end Umno's abuses. Umno only fears one truth: force.

The only force the opposition can muster is unity. To rally the opposition components together, we need a charismatic leader. Sadly, there's none among them.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is in jail. He can't be the rallying force. As a voter, I see former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the beacon of hope in the short run.

With resolve from all sides, let him rally the disgruntled Umno members and opposition parties to a final face-off with PM Najib Razak.

Set aside all your differences. There is no greater aspiration from the rakyat than unity among the opposition. That will be the force Umno can understand.

Pemerhati: During the Perak constitutional crisis cases, the “law was turned upside down” (according to law expert Abdul Aziz Bari) and the judges came up with ridiculous verdicts to enable Najib and BN seize Perak from Pakatan Rakyat.

That case clearly showed that there was no rule of law in the country. The bizarre rulings and behaviour of the judges (especially during the Kajang by-election) in the Anwar Ibrahim ‘Sodomy 2’ cases confirmed this.

So it would be reasonable to assume that Guan Eng’s fate has already been sealed, and the judges will deliver the verdict as expected.

This case is just a ‘sandiwara’ to try and fool the public and the world into thinking that there is rule of law in this country.

Najib and Umno will benefit from the ‘sandiwara’ as the case will waste the resources and time of the opposition.

Gunnerrun: Although Chinese, Guan Eng's fight is for all Malaysians. This is already proven by his very unfortunate past imprisonment.

I believe Guan Eng, when down on his knees, will get up time and again so long as he's still able to do what he needs to do to fulfil his personal mission.

We want a better and brighter future for generations to come. We can speak and pray many, many times saying we repent and accept only His teachings but when it's time to do the right thing, many cannot deliver on our promises.

Time and again, we are deceived by the dark force. This is one grand master of all illusions who have been deceiving us since the day we are born. All he wants is for us to fight among ourselves.

The more we listen to him, the more we turn away from our true and positive side, our godly traits. Guan Eng, may you survive what's to befall on you and your family. God speed.

Negarawan: Many Malaysians can’t help but feel helpless and frustrated at not being able to do anything about the deteriorating state of the country.

What can the rakyat do about this unprecedented predicament? Should the rakyat remain quiet for fear of persecution? Should the rakyat close one eye and take care of their rice bowls first?

Should the rakyat remain passive, while the opposition parties continue to struggle against the overwhelming onslaught of the government machinery?

In this difficult times, there is one way the rakyat can go on the offensive, that is through the power of prayer.

Followers of different religions, be it Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, Hinduism, or Taoism, can organise daily prayers for peace and justice to prevail in the country, and for divine justice to be served on the 1MDB culprits and their accomplices.

They may escape the law, but they cannot escape God’s justice. Pray for this, as this is the first offensive move we can make.

Hank Marvin: Don't worry, Guan Eng; our prayers are with you. We know you are innocent.

This is just part of the journey that will put you in the list of heroes such as Anwar Ibrahim and Nelson Mandela. Stay strong and focused; you are already a winner.

Anonymous 759201436321741: When the going gets tough, the tough get going. And it's always the darkest hour before dawn.

Existential Turd: If Guan Eng is convicted, he becomes a martyr. If he is acquitted, he is a hero. Either way, Umno-BN has already lost even before the trial begins.

Fogbom: A majority of the comments here support Guan Eng. This is a good start for GE14.

Penangites have broken Umno's evil spell in March 2008 and reconfirmed their support for DAP more strongly in May 2013.

Najib, being the third rate man who invented 1MDB, has now reinvigorated DAP's chances at GE14.

Charges against Guan Eng lay bare BN’s moral bankruptcy
