Police have summoned Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming to record his statement at the Bukit Aman police headquarters on Monday over an allegedly anti-Islam caricature on his Facebook fanpage.

Nga claimed he has nothing to do with the posting, and that he is not the administrator of the Facebook page.

Nga, who is also Perak DAP chief, said a police investigating officer had contacted him and told him to be present at the police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

“We always exist to assist (investigations),” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini.

He had earlier today lodged a police report at the Ipoh district police headquarters, claiming he is a victim of slander in the issue.

Yesterday, he claimed the caricature was part of a smear campaign against him and that he had nothing to do with it.

The Facebook fanpage, which published a picture of children receiving 'duit raya' and linked it to animal feed, has since been deactivated.

"Clearly the caricature is slander made during this sacred month (during Ramadan).

"I stress that I did not draw or upload that picture on my own Facebook account and I had no intention to hurt the feelings of my Malay and Muslims friends, whom I have respected all this while," Nga said in a statement yesterday.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said Nga is being investigated for sedition.

Yesterday some 200 Umno Youth members and an anti-DAP group of red-shirt protesters demonstrated outside the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, accusing Nga of not respecting Islam with the two postings.

The protesters also threw hell notes at the DAP headquarters. Hell notes are a form of joss paper printed to resemble currency notes that the Chinese, in their tradition, burn as offerings for deceased ancestors.
