Police are looking into the need to investigate a vehicle designed to look like an army rocket launcher, which was used to promote the sale of coffee along Jalan Semarak Api in Kuala Lumpur.

Deputy inspector-general of police Noor Rashid Ibrahim said investigations would be carried out if it was found that the vehicle had caused a disturbance and frightened people.

“If there are grounds for an investigation, we will do so. (So far) the activity carried out did not disturb or strike fear among people nearby the premises,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman.

Noor Rashid said this when asked for comment on news reports yesterday that police had seized a vehicle designed to look like an army rocket launcher.

It was reported that patrol police from the Cyberjaya station at about 11.30am received a report of an army rocket launcher being driven around the area.

The report quoted Sepang district police chef Abdul Aziz Ali as saying that the complainant, together with the police, later found the vehicle with two rocket launchers attached to its roof.

“The complainant and police approached the vehicle and ordered it to stop for inspection. Following that, two men aged 28 and 24 were arrested and taken to the Cyberjaya police station for further action.

“Police also seized the vehicle and the two men were released on bail yesterday,” Abdul Aziz reportedly said.

He added that the case was investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for vehicle modification.

The owner and manager of the coffee chain is expected to hold a press conference on the matter at one of its outlets tonight.
