Blogger Papagomo or Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris today lost his final bid at the Federal Court to set aside the RM800,000 that was awarded to former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim for defamation.

This follows the ruling of the three-member bench, which dismissed his leave application to appeal the decisions by High Court and Court of Appeal in granting the award.

Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Justice Richard Malanjum, who led the bench, said there was no merit in the application based on the facts of the case.

Justice Richard also ordered Papagomo to pay RM10,000 as costs.

Wan Muhammad Azri's lawyers Hanif Idris and Amran Aminuddin had posed three questions, which the court did not entertain following the case's dismissal.

Anwar was represented by lawyers Latheefa Koya and Shahid Adli Kamarudin.

The PKR de facto leader had named Wan Muhammad Azri in the RM100 million defamation suit following the publication of lewd images said to be of Anwar with another man.

On Feb 28, 2014, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Justice Rosilah Yop found that Wan Muhammad Azri had maliciously defamed Anwar, and awarded RM800,000 in damages after another blogger, Mohd Fauzi Mohd Azmi, identified Wan Muhammad Azri as Papagomo.

The Court of Appeal had on December last year upheld the decision against Wan Muhammad Azri's appeal over the quantum of the damages and the whole of the High Court's decision, where it ruled there is no error in the lower court's decision.

He was ordered to pay costs of RM50,000 by the High Court and RM10,000 by the Court of Appeal.
