Terengganu could see snap polls soon, as Kijal assemblyperson Ahmad Said faces possible disciplinary action from Umno for criticising the party.

BN holds 17 seats in the state legislative assembly while PAS has 14 and PKR has one assemblyperson in Terengganu.

If Ahmad Said is sacked from Umno and he consequently allies himself with the opposition, Terengganu would see a hung assembly, which could lead to a snap election.

However, Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said he is standing firm and will not seek dissolution, The Star reported today.

Ahmad Razif yesterday said he is leaving Ahmad Said's fate to the party disciplinary committee.

"We will take action based on party discipline... if anyone is in the wrong, we will take action. If, say, I am in the wrong, action should also be taken.

"We leave it to the Umno disciplinary board to deal with him; if he is in the wrong, he is in the wrong. We, at the state Umno liaison committee, will send a report to the highest level for action to be taken.

"This is the basis which must be upheld by the party which has principles (like Umno)," he was quoted by Bernama as saying in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.

Ahmad Razif took over from Ahmad Said as menteri besar in a sudden reshuffle in 2014.

Ahmad Said on Sunday said he is ready to face any action from Umno but cautioned the party that its position in Terengganu hangs in the balance.
