Air quality improving, no unhealthy API readings

The air quality throughout the country is improving, with no areas recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading as of 4pm today.

According to the Department of Environment website, 23 areas recorded moderate API reading with the highest at 97 in Nilai, as compared to 101 at 3pm.

Other areas which recorded moderate API readings were Banting, Selangor (88), Putrajaya (86), Shah Alam, Selangor (84), Tanjung Malim, Perak (81), while Batu Muda and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur both recorded 77.

Port Klang, Selangor also recorded an API reading of 76, followed by Petaling Jaya (72) and Miri, Sarawak (58) while Paka, Terengganu and Jerantut, Pahang recorded 57.

This was an improvement from this morning when four areas in Selangor and Negri Sembilan recorded unhealthy API reading at 9am.

An API reading of between 0 and 50 is categorised as good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and 300 and above hazardous.
